FINCA International is currently looking for a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for FINCA Mexico, based in Cuernavaca.
FINCA Mexico was founded in 1989 and is one of FINCA International’s largest affiliates. FINCA Mexico was the first FINCA affiliate to surpass the 100,000-client mark and is helping create jobs, build assets and improve the standard of living for our clients and the more than half a million children and adults in their families. Some 60-70% of our client population, which has grown more than sixfold in just three years, lives below the poverty line. About 75% live in rural areas. Some 70% are involved in selling goods, 20% in services and the rest in processing or selling farm products. FINCA serves clients in 12 of Mexico’s 31 states. FINCA Mexico has received the highest possible rating from an independent rating agency specializing in microfinance institutions. The agency examined all aspects-financial, managerial, and programmatic-of the operation and deemed it “excellent.”
The Country Director/CEO is the ‘Gerente General’ of the affiliate and directly responsible for the day-to-day management. This includes direct responsibility for managing the economic and human resources of the affiliate, driving operational and financial performance, and developing its institutional capacity. In all his/her activities, s/he will be guided by the principle of good stewardship for FINCA and its mission, and responsibility and accountability to FINCA and its authorized agents and bodies. He/she will:
- Ensure delivery of high quality financial services to clients,
- Implement best practice corporate governance and the highest quality management standards including a strong focus on staff development,
- Carefully manage financial resources of the institution such that shareholders earn a fair return and clients pay a fair price for services
- Implement risk management principles and practices,
- Ensure compliance with the Charter/Bylaws of the affiliate; FINCA network level as well as affiliate level policies, procedures, plans and agreements; and decisions of affiliate governing bodies,
- Maintain close coordination with regional office, headquarters, and affiliate governing bodies,
- Assist in mobilizing funding resources (debt and/or grant capital),
- Promote FINCA International in the country,
- Contribute to the development of the FINCA network.
Ideal profile:
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in related discipline required,
- Experience working in senior management role for regulated financial institution required,
- Experience in credit: 4 years minimum desired,
- Significant experience and demonstrated success in personnel management,
- International experience in developing countries, preferably Mexico: 3 years minimum,
- Risk Management experience required,
- Experience working in microfinance an asset,
- Exposure and established interest in working for poverty alleviation,
- Experience leading or playing substantive role in institutional planning (strategic planning and development of annual operating plans, projections and budgets),
- Excellent entrepreneurial, leadership, communication skills,
- Self-confidence, decisiveness and common sense,
- High degree of computer literacy a must,
- Fluency in English and Spanish required.
