Job Description

Enabling sustainable and more equitable lives for all

SNV is a mission-driven global development partner driven by the vision of a better world: one where across every society, people live with dignity and have equitable opportunities to thrive sustainably. Rooted in the contexts and societies we work in and inspired by the transformational principles and objectives set out by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), SNV strengthens capacities and catalyses partnerships that transform agri-food, energy, and water systems. With 60 years of experience and a team of approximately 1,600 people, we support our partners in more than 20 countries in Africa and Asia, tailoring our approaches to different contexts to achieve large-scale impact and create more equitable lives for all.

We work to strengthen institutions and effective governance, reduce gender inequalities and barriers to social inclusion, and enable adaptation and mitigation to the climate and biodiversity crises. We recognise that today’s problems are not just technical puzzles, they represent complex systemic challenges. This requires that we strive for systems transformation that goes beyond surface solutions and fighting symptoms, and that we look beyond project boundaries.

SNV is seeking an inspirational and strategic leader with strong business acumen to join us as our Chief Financial Officer. In partnership with the CEO and the Executive Team you will ensure solid financial stewardship, accountability, and compliance with donor requirements, while enabling long-term growth and programmatic impact. You will be instrumental in translating our 2030 strategy into financial diligence, statutory compliance and tangible impact that matters.

As a solutions-oriented finance leader you will align our financial strategy with mission-aligned goals across complex global operations. As CFO you will oversee a team of 50 professionals and be responsible for the overall financial health of the organisation, diverse donor budgets and reporting, and risk management. You will foster a culture of data-driven decision making, ethical stewardship and operational
excellence.

The ideal candidate for this critical position will possess strong business acumen combined with critical thinking and problem-solving skills; understand the art of business case/scenario building, financial modelling and meaningful dashboard design. You will hold a Masters degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field, with an additional certification in CPA, ACCA, CIMA, CA, or equivalent preferred. Your background will entail 15+ years of progressively senior financial leadership experience, preferably in international NGOs, philanthropy or donor-funded organisations. You will be experienced in working at executive leadership level with a proven track record of managing large, complex, multi-currency budgets and global operations. An excellent communicator, you will be comfortable translating and presenting complex financial data to non-financial audiences enabling data-driven decision making across senior levels of the organisation. You will
have excellent cross-cultural leadership and interpersonal skills, leading and
inspiring financial acumen and diligent cost control across different levels of
the organisation. Above
all, you align with our vision of a world where across every society, all
people live with dignity and have equitable opportunities to sustainably
thrive.

This will be a full-time position (40 hours a
week) with expected travel of +/-30%. The position is based in The Hague, the
Netherlands (preference), or Nairobi, Kenya. We offer a competitive salary and
benefits package in a stimulating work environment, considerable flexibility,
opportunities to lead and innovate, and a commitment to growing your skills in
a fulfilling international working environment.

To apply, applications should
