Job Description

The Chief of Party will be responsible for overall achievement and quality of task order deliverables. This will include the following:

  • Produce and submit communication products and publications, support event management and interactive engagement opportunities that support USAID Kenya’s strategic plan.
  • Provide overall project management and technical operations to ensure that project tasks and deliverables are completed and the objectives of the project are successfully met on-time and within budget.
  • Provide and manage technical assistance, capacity building training, and overall support to staff and were requested, to USAID and implementing partner staff.
  • Provide the vision and overall leadership to the team, lead the project team and serve as the primary point of contact with USAID regarding day-to-day activity implementation and management matters relating to the contract.
  • Assure that all assistance provided under the contract, whether by international or local experts/personnel, is technically sound and appropriate for the needs to be addressed.
  • Manage and supervise the work of all experts/personnel provided under the contract.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Master’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, or a relevant related field of study (or Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field with an additional minimum of six years of relevant experience).
  • At least 4 years of related public relations, public outreach, and/or Communications for Development (C4D) experience.
  • Must be a native of Fluent English speaker (S/5 and R/5 proficiency to perform communications technical services.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of the principles, methods, practices, and techniques of communication, and skill in applying such knowledge to develop written information materials for dissemination through a variety of media, in order to determine and effectively use the most appropriate means for transmitting information, and to evaluate the effectiveness of plans developed to communicate with targeted audiences.
    • This includes an understanding of the use of written communication in developing news releases, feature stories, background statements, fact sheets, media spots, and scripts that effectively transmit information about complex USAID programs/projects/activities and functions.
  • A strong understanding of social media and websites
  • An excellent knowledge of English grammar and American word usage and spelling
  • Advanced knowledge of graphic design, printing, and publishing processes, and the ability to oversee printers and/or publishers;
  • Experience in creative video production, animation and utilizing new media;
  • A strong understanding of procurement processes and a broad understanding of issues related to international development.
