About the Program

The Australia – PNG Economic Partnership (APEP) is a multi-sectoral investment to assist GoPNG to create a stable and more prosperous country. The investment is a key coordination point from which Australia delivers its economic development support to PNG in alignment with the Comprehensive Strategic and Economic Partnership (CSEP). The Australian Government is committed to delivering the Partnership in accordance with the principles of integration and alignment with PNG’s economic sector policies, systems and processes.

The Partnership’s policy objective is to assist PNG in its efforts to achieve sustained growth, capable of lifting the standard of living of all citizens, while also ensuring Australia maintains its reputation as PNG’s economic partner of choice.

About the Opportunity

The Climate Change Coordinator will work closely with APEP’s Climate Change Adviser to progress the implementation of APEP’s Climate and Disaster Resilience for Economic Growth Strategy.

This will include working across all of APEP’s pillar teams to help integrate climate strategies and actions into all APEP programming, workplans and activities. It will also include day-to-day project management of discrete climate related activities (such as climate research grants) and engagement with APEP’s external stakeholders.

It is expected the Climate Change Coordinator will carry on support to all APEP pillars when the Adviser is not available.

The Climate Change Coordinator will require a good understanding of monitoring and evaluation principles and how to implement systems and processes for capturing and reporting climate integration and budget spend in APEP.

About You

For applications to be considered, a response to the key selection criteria below must be provided;

Qualifications

· Relevant tertiary qualifications in climate related science, social science, project management, development, or another relevant discipline

Knowledge

· Good theoretical understanding of climate change science, with the ability to translate theory into practice.

· Ability to communication well and work effectively with internal staff and stakeholders to progress climate responses across APEP.

Skills/Experience

· At least two years’ experience in climate related work in PNG.

· Good understanding of climate issues in PNG and the wider region.

· Good written communication skills with experience preparing evidence-based reports.

· Demonstrated ability to integrate and promote principles of gender equity, disability, and social inclusion in all aspects of this role.
