About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Climate Change Specialist to join our multidisciplinary team working on a high-impact project to assess and enhance the climate resilience of power sector infrastructure in Tanzania, with potential work extensions to Zambia and Malawi. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a transformative initiative addressing climate vulnerability in one of the most critical sectors for socio-economic development.

Key Responsibilities
As a Climate Change Specialist, you will:

  • Conduct assessments of climate hazards (droughts, floods, storms, changes in solar radiation) affecting power infrastructure.
  • Develop and implement methodologies for analysing the exposure and vulnerability of power system assets to climate-related risks.
  • Collaborate with geospatial analysts to integrate climate hazard data into geospatial inventories and models.
  • Provide insights into adaptation strategies, including engineering, non-engineering, and nature-based solutions.
  • Design and validate climate scenarios using historical data and projections aligned with the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6).
  • Support the development of resilience investment strategies by estimating the impact of climate hazards on infrastructure performance.
  • Engage with stakeholders, including government entities, private sector representatives, and international organizations, to align on findings and recommendations.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education:
    Master’s degree in Climatology, Meteorology, Environmental Science, Hydrology, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • At least 10 years of experience in climate impact assessment, modelling, or related fields.
    • Proven track record of applying climate data in the energy or infrastructure sector.
    • Experience working in Sub-Saharan Africa or similar contexts is highly desirable.
  • Skills and Knowledge:
    • Proficiency in climate impact modelling tools and geospatial analysis software.
    • Strong understanding of climate hazard metrics and their implications for infrastructure planning.
    • Familiarity with adaptation frameworks, including engineering and nature-based solutions.
    • Excellent communication and report-writing skills in English.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment.
