Co-Facilitator for the Women’s Economic Empowerment Working Group

Title: Co- Facilitator, Women’s Economic Empowerment Working Group at the SEEP Network Funded by: ACDI/VOCA, lead implementer of USAID-funded Leveraging Economic Opportunities (LEO) project

Estimated LoE: Up to 25 days

Timeline: February 15-December 31, 2015

ABOUT the WEE Working Group: In June, 2014, the USAID-funded Leveraging Economic Opportunities (LEO) project sponsored a survey to SEEP members and non-members to gauge interest in establishing a women’s economic empowerment working group. The response was overwhelmingly positive. A new Women’s Economic Empowerment Working Group (WEEWG) was launched at the 2014 SEEP Conference in September 2014. LEO’s Women’s Empowerment learning track is continuing to support the WEEWG through 2015 through funding facilitators who can provide the leadership, management and mobilization necessary for the WEEWG to flourish.

The overall goal of the group is to improve the ability of market systems and other inclusive economic development practitioners to facilitate inclusive, empowering and sustainable services to women across the globe. The group aims to achieve this by bringing together inclusive economic development practitioners committed to sharing and documenting good practices, tools and resources to bridge knowledge gaps and strengthen the impact of our women’s economic empowerment initiatives.

POSITION OVERVIEW: The co-facilitator for the Women’s Economic Empowerment Working Group will work collaboratively with the other WEE WG co-facilitator to lead, coordinate and expand the activities of the WEE working group. The work of the co-facilitator will be funded and managed under the LEO Women’s Empowerment learning track. The co-facilitator will also report on the activities and outcomes of the WEE WG to the Program Director at the SEEP Network.

Key activities:

  • Co-manage communications and logistics about the WEE WG with members and the broader development community
  • Mobilize and connect organizations and practitioners working on WEE within SEEP, and also within other external networks
  • Coordinate webinars and e-discussions on key issues facing practitioners
  • Launch calls for critical research /new learning in key areas
  • Lead advocacy for WEE within other SEEP Working Groups and gender or women’s empowerment working groups within the broader gender and development community, fostering opportunities for cross-sectoral collaboration

The co-facilitator will work with the other WEE WG facilitator to support the implementation of the activities that have been planned for this year, as well as define activities for the future

Position Responsibilities

  1. Planning : Create a work plan that clearly outlines objectives, activities, target audience, milestones, dissemination channels and success metrics
  2. Knowledge Generation
    1. Support on going knowledge exchange within the community
      1. Write blogs on relevant issues or solicit posts from members
      2. Organize webinar on topic related to the learning agenda
  • Solicit content (tools, research studies, program descriptions to update maps, events etc) from members to populate / update community website.
  1. Identity and engage additional members / stakeholders to contribute to the learning agenda , as and when appropriate
  1. Engage community members to contribute content for knowledge exchange and developing learning outputs.
  2. Build a continuous learning environment
  1. Knowledge Dissemination
    1. Learning Events
      1. Lead a community member’s meeting the day of the Annual General Meeting at the Annual Conference
    2. Facilitate and plan in-person or virtual learning events and follow up with a short summary to be shared through the website.
  2. Communication
    1. Facilitate online discussion space
      1. Engage members through frequent communication
      2. Welcome new members and incorporate them into the on-going learning project
  • Help update group member lists
  1. Reporting
    1. Develop and submit work plan
    2. Invoices
  • Quarterly reports
  1. Additional information pertaining to the working group when requested

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years’ experience working on issues related to gender and economic development
  • Substantial experience in international development, including knowledge of current practice and trends in the markets systems development
  • Masters’s degree in international development, gender studies or related field
  • Excellent facilitation and training skills in cross-cultural settings;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and excellent organizational skills;
  • Fluency in English;
  • Proficiency in an additional language (Spanish, French, Arabic, etc) highly desirable;
  • Skilled in Web-based communications, with full-time, high-speed web access.
