Background Information
Global Communities is producing a manual on best practices in agriculture in the Syrian setting. The publication will be a detailed guide on how to implement agriculture / resilience programming in emergency environments, focused on the work we have undertaken in the Syrian conflict. The document is expected to be approximately 15,000 words long.
Responsibilities:
Scope of Work
The consultant will:
* Undertake desk research of Global Communities work and other organizations’ work in the Syrian crisis relating to agriculture, in the context of more broad humanitarian approaches (approximately 2 weeks)
* Visit Gaziantep for approximately 10 working days; during that visit, the consultant will interview Global Communities technical staff and meet with partner and peer organizations to understand their work in agriculture, including, but not limited to, UNFAO, GIZ, BINAA, Masarrat, and other partners as advised by the field team. (2 weeks)
* Produce the written text of the document as agreed with Comms and OHA. (four weeks)
* After review by technical and editorial staff, will undertake further desk and telephone research and edits as directed. (two weeks)
Length of assignment : Approximately 2 weeks in Gaziantep, Turkey; the remainder in their home base location.
Provide final text by September 10, 2017.
Deliverables
* Required - at least 10 years’ experience of professional writing. Experience in writing for broad audiences - both technical and non-technical preferred, including journalism, communications for global development organizations, think tanks, policy-makers or similar audiences.
* A degree in a related subject (English, journalism, international relations)
* Technical knowledge and experience in writing on global development issues required. Technical knowledge and experience in humanitarian assistance and/or agriculture preferred.
