Job Description

II. Organizational context

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the lead organization for sustainable development within the UN development system and serves as an integrator for collective action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNDP is the lead UN agency fighting to end the injustice of poverty, inequality, and climate change. Working with our extensive network of experts and partners in 170 countries, we help nations build integrated, sustainable solutions for people and the planet.

The UNDP 2024-2028 program cycle aims to achieve transformative change by drastically reducing poverty, inequality, and unemployment. It aims to promote resilient, inclusive, and sustainable socioeconomic growth at the national and local levels, while strengthening institutions and accountability systems and enhancing individuals’ capacities for mutual accountability.

To this end, Senegal has subscribed to various international environmental agreements. These commitments oblige it to take measures, particularly in the areas of human security, natural resource management, the fight against climate change, and disaster risk reduction, through several programs and projects.

Taking into account UNDP’s project portfolio in the southern zone and reporting requirements, UNDP wishes to strengthen its communication system through the recruitment of a communications intern.

III. Key Functions/Expected Results

Under the supervision of the Ziguinchor sub-office coordinator, the intern will support the design, production and dissemination of communication content, thus contributing to:

  • Ensure visibility of project activities and results;
  • Strengthen UNDP’s image among partners and local communities;
  • Document and share best practices and success stories .

IV. Impact of Results

  • Different communication media adapted to the needs of the sub-office are designed;
  • The office’s activities (workshops, field missions, official visits, equipment handovers) benefit from media coverage;
  • Media visibility of field office activities is ensured;
  • The preparation of internal and external communication documents is ensured;
  • The digital presence of the field office is ensured;
  • The achievements of the projects are well valued.
  • Field office teams receive logistical support;

VI. Required qualifications

Training/Education

  • Be in the final year of a bachelor’s degree or currently enrolled in a postgraduate program (such as a master’s program or higher) in Social Sciences: Communication and Media, Social Sciences, Management Sciences, Economics, Sociology, International Development, Marketing or equivalent.
  • Have obtained a university degree or equivalent studies less than one year ago in Social Sciences: Communication and Media, Social Sciences, Management Sciences, Economics, Sociology, International Development, Marketing or equivalent.

Experience :

  • Excellent graphic design and visual arts skills, with proficiency in tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign or Canva.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office productivity tools (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Knowledge of digital platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn) and their management.
  • Ability to work in a team and in a multicultural environment.

LANGUAGES :

  • Perfect command of written and spoken French is required
  • Perfect mastery of a local language (Wolof, Diola, Mandingo or Fulani) is required.
  • Knowledge of English is desirable.
