Duties and Responsibilities
- The position is located in the United Nations Office for Digital and Emerging Technologies (UNODET).
- UNODET was established on 1 January 2025 with the following mandate:

- Advise UN senior leadership on key technology trends and strategic approaches.
- Serve as advocate and focal point for digital cooperation with Member States, industry, civil society, and other stakeholders.
- Facilitate multi-stakeholder policy dialogue on digital and emerging technologies.
- Strengthen system-wide coordination on digital and emerging technologies.
- Support follow-up and implementation of the Global Digital Compact (A/RES/79/1, Annex 1).
- Through the Under-Secretary-General and Special Envoy, UNODET leads the implementation of the Secretary-General’s vision on digital cooperation.
- Support engagement with UN entities and partners to accelerate global digital cooperation while mitigating risks linked to emerging technologies.
- Contribute to UN follow-up actions under the Roadmap for Digital Cooperation and the report Our Common Agenda.
- Support UNODET’s mission to ensure digital innovation supports humanity, inclusion, and sustainable development.
- Support ODET’s communications efforts to increase visibility and stakeholder engagement.

The position offers three focus tracks based on background and skills:
- Track 1: Design & Social Media

- Design digital assets including graphics, banners, and short video clips using Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, or Canva.
- Draft concise and accessible digital content for social media and publications, aligned with brand guidelines.
- Support coverage and documentation of key initiatives and events.
- Track 2: Web & UX
- Assist with updating website content and online materials using basic HTML and CSS knowledge.
- Conduct quality checks on web content, visuals, layout, and links, ensuring accessibility and design consistency.
- Track 3: Editorial
- Draft and edit news pieces, articles, and social media content.
- Edit and refine text to align with ODET’s values and messaging.
- Contribute to storytelling and communications materials supporting ODET’s mission.
- Applicants must indicate their preferred track in their Motivation Statement.
Qualifications / Special Skills
- Applicants must meet one of the following:

- Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level).
- Have graduated with a relevant university degree as outlined above.
- Preference for applicants pursuing or holding degrees related to digital technologies, communications, international relations, or related fields.
- For education systems without undergraduate/graduate distinction, at least four years of full-time university study toward a relevant degree is required.
Languages
- English and French are the UN Secretariat working languages.
- Fluency in English is required.
- Knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage.
Additional Information
- For internships in the USA, non-US citizens or permanent residents must obtain a G4 visa.
- Selected candidates are responsible for securing a valid visa and approved work authorization (CPT, OPT, or AT).
Intern-Specific Information
- Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
- Travel, visa, accommodation, and living costs are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
- Interns may be required to obtain a valid visa and work/employment authorization before starting.
- Selected candidates must clarify visa requirements prior to accepting the internship offer.
