Job Description

We are looking for a communications professional, experienced in the international development sphere, to join our dynamic and committed team of international development professionals. The Manager will serve as a key member of the Strategic Business Development Team. S/he will manage the full suite of communications services to support the Strategic Business Development team, the Client Services team and the Executive Team in positioning Cardno’s Arlington office to both capture and win new work with USAID, other donors and corporate clients as well as to implement client work globally. The Manager will develop and implement a communication strategy to support the execution of the home office’s strategic plan. The Manager will lead activities to maximize the utilization of the website, social media platforms and other tools to build our eminence, reputation and brand image. The Manager will lead knowledge management activities. On communications matters, s/he will serve as a key partner with Cardno’s staff in Emerging Markets Americas, Europe, Middle East and Africa; Americas and Asia/Pacific Divisions; and Corporate Headquarters.

The primary duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

> Develop and execute a communications strategy that builds eminence, promotes our technical thought leadership, and increases our profile and engagement with clients.
> Manage communications activities including the development, maintenance and distribution of marketing materials (internal and external).
> Collaborate with and support individuals located in home and field offices regarding communications.
> Ensure full utilization of social media platforms including: LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and HootSuite.
>Provide writing/infographics/editing for proposals, website/intranet content, marketing materials; corporate e-newsletters, corporate and industry publications, and client publications/blogs.
> Serve as Managing Editor for global Emerging Markets magazine (Cardno Connect).
> Work with proposal teams to develop the communication elements of proposals’ technical and/or management sections. For USAID proposals, draft Branding Strategy and Marking Plans.
> Train Cardno corporate staff and project staff (including CoPs and DCoPs) on the use of communications services and methods. Train and mentor staff on communications best practices.
> Travel to project sites overseas to work with project staff on communications (including billable work for clients).
> Ensure knowledge management systems are used, monitored and evaluated.
> Direct other staff or consultants who may be assigned in the performance of communication or knowledge management tasks.
> Other duties as assigned.

Basic Requirements:

> Bachelors Degree in Communications or Journalism
> Minimum 8-10 years of experience in communications with a strong preference for successful experience in the international development business (e.g., USAID or other donors).
> Excellent communication skills, including writing and editing
> Demonstrated leadership, organizational, teamwork, and people skills
> Demonstrated skills in full utilization of social media including: LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and HootSuite
> Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of major international donor organizations, especially USAID, MCC and other donor agencies
> Demonstrated experience in proposal development, in particular for USAID
> Ability to work harmoniously in high pressure situations
> Experience working with international programs and understanding of business development and project management in developing countries
> Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint required.
> Proficiency Adobe InDesign, Acrobat





Desired Qualifications

> Master’s degree in Communications or Journalism. International Development is a plus.
> Demonstrated skills in graphic design (infographics) preferred
> Knowledge of corporate client business development a plus
> Experience working in Africa, Asia and/or Latin America highly preferred
> Fluency in the English language (speaking, writing, and reading) required and a foreign language is desirable.
