Position

About the role

At the European Climate Foundation (ECF), we are seeking a business-oriented Compensation & BenefitsManager to manage the daily Compensation and Benefits Operations. This role focuses on operational excellence, process accuracy, and effective collaboration with HR, Finance, and Employer of Record providers.

We are looking for someone who is trusted for their technical credibility but valued equally for their collaborative, solution-focused approach.

The position will report to the newly created HR Operations Managerand plays a key role in implementing and maintaining reward processes in line with ECF’s frameworks.

Key responsibilities

Operational Excellence

  • Drive accuracy and consistency across all compensation and benefits processes
  • Ensure quality and timeliness of compensation deliverables across all locations
  • Identify inefficiencies and advise on process improvements for better service delivery and risk management
  • Maintain clear documentation and ensure processes are audit-ready and compliant with internal and external requirements

Compensation Operations and Governance

  • Lead and manage the salary review cycle, including budgeting, calibration, validation, and execution
  • Monitor and resolve payroll discrepancies, salary anomalies, and structural data issues in coordination with Finance and Payroll
  • Maintain up-to-date salary bands, job levels, and internal frameworks, ensuring data accuracy and audit readinessacross multiple jurisdictions
  • Ensure compensation policies and practices are consistently applied across all jurisdictions

Employer of Record(EOR) Oversight

  • Oversee all compensation and benefits-related aspects for staff employed via EoR arrangements
  • Coordinate with EoR vendors to ensure contract alignment, invoicing accuracy, and benefit compliance
  • Serve as main point of contact for HR, Finance, and Legal regarding EoR governance and mobility-related processes

Partnering and Internal Support

  • Act as the go-to expert for HR Business Partners, Finance, and Legal for operational reward topics
  • Support recruitment efforts by providing benchmarking data and offer recommendations, ensuring internal equity and external competitiveness
  • Provide practical, day-to-day support to managers and HR colleagues on compensation-related queries

Project Support and Additional Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of the EU Pay Transparency Directive, including gender pay reviews and related reporting
  • Contribute to other compensation or benefits-related projects and tasks as assigned, in line with organizational priorities
Requirements

Experience and Competencies

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Compensation & Benefits in an international context (having managed Comp & Ben for at least 4 different European countries)
  • Knowledge of EU and international tax, social security, and employment regulations 
  • Experience working with payroll vendors and Employer of Record providers 
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to translate technical requirements into actionable business support 
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to deliver under pressure
  • Trusted partner with excellent interpersonal and advisory skills 
  • Good hands-on knowledge of HRIS tools and of Excel 
  • Fluent in English; knowledge of Dutch or French is an asset
