ASSIGNMENT OVERVIEW
Assignment Title: 1000724 - Consultancy to Develop Repositories for Remittances Data
ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION
(i) Following the recommendation of the Second International Technical Meeting on Measuring Remittances, June 11 -12, 2009, the idea is to develop a program to aid countries in the exchange of “bilateral” remittances data and detailed information about data collection and compilation practices. More specifically, a forum allowing countries/institutions to post the results of methodological research, including in the use of innovative sources, and bilateral data. This forum/data repository should help countries compare data and sources, with the aim of improving their estimates.
(ii) Given the nature of remittances - relatively small amounts of money sent/received by individuals, often using informal channels - household surveys are an attractive data source. The aim is to also create an on-line repository of existing household survey questionnaires that have been used to collect remittance and migration data.
Scope and Timing of Required Services
The consultancy is for up to 50 days, and would run from April/May through June/July 2010.
Qualifications
The consultant would preferably have prior experience in planning and establishing databases. Knowledge of economic statistics is also preferable. Fluency in English is required. The candidate must have a bachelor/master or equivalent degree, and at least 5 years of experience working in statistics/database management, or other relevant experience.
(For more information about the recommendation of the International Technical Meeting on Measuring Remittances, see our web-site: )
INDIVIDUAL / FIRM PROFILE
The consultant should be an individual or an individual expert proposed by a firm.

The World Bank now invites eligible consultants to indicate their interest in providing the services. Please note that the total size of all attachments should be less than 5MB.
Interested consultants are hereby invited to submit expressions of interest.
