Job Description

Role’s Purpose:

In support of these activity areas, the Activity implements an active public outreach and communications program. The Activity seeks a short-term Consultant to assist in editing and proofreading English language communications and reporting materials.

Tasks/Responsibilities

The Consultant shall be responsible for the following:

  • Support preparation of all English-language documents, as requested
  • Edit and proofread Activity’s reporting materials for USAID (e.g., weekly reports, bullets, event scenarios, talking points for USAID representatives, etc.)
  • Edit and proofread Activity’s communications and outreach materials (success stories, articles, press releases, Twitter posts, etc.)
  • Edit and proofread Activity’s publications, research reports and whitepapers, as requested
  • Improve the language, flow, and readability of the documents without losing the meaning of the original text
  • Reword, rewrite, and condense text in cooperation with Activity’s team
  • Assist in ensuring English language documents speak to intended audiences
  • Other appropriate related duties as requested.
  • Deliverables:
  • Editing and proofreading reporting materials for USAID
  • Editing and proofreading the Activity’s communications and outreach materials
  • Editing and proofreading the Activity’s publications, study research reports, and whitepapers
  • Other editing and proofreading duties, as may be required

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English/Journalism or another related field or equivalent experience as a professional journalist/editor
  • Native speaker of American English with the capacity to detect and understand nuances in text, a good grasp of the subject matter, ability to use all sources of reference, and ability to maintain an adequate speed and volume of output
  • Excellent English writing and editing skills
  • Experience working with USAID or other international donor-funded programs
  • Strong organizational and communications skills.

Period of Performance:

November 2023 – November 2024
