International Dairy Trainer for Support to KMDP PDTCs Kenya Market-led Dairy Programme (SNV)

KMDP and Vocational Skills Development

The Kenya Market-led Dairy Programme (KMDP) is a 4.5 year programme funded by the Netherland’s Embassy in Nairobi as part of its
food security agenda. The programme is implemented by SNV/Kenya.

One of KMDP’s focus areas is support to Dairy Training and Skills Development. This is actioned through institu-tional support at two levels: the national Dairy Training Institute in Naivasha and promotion of the concept of Practical Dairy Training Farms/Centres in various milk sheds. The PDTCs are commercial dairy farms that have opened and equipped their farms for training of dairy farmers of different categories: small, medium and large scale including farm managers.

Consultancy deliverables and qualifications

SNV/KMDP is looking for an international dairy practical skills training expert, with at least 10 years of relevant work experience for a short term consultancy in June 2014 to give the following support:

  • To pilot a 4-5 days training course for 10 Medium/Large Scale Farmers at one of the PDTC’s and to give recommendations after this pilot for commercial roll-out of the course by the PDTC.
  • To make a scan of one or two other PDTCs and to give recommendations on the training modules used, skills development and training of the trainers, and the need for enhancing farm management to enable best practice dairy farming-for-learning.

The consultant should have the following qualifications:

  • University or Bachelor Degree (equivalent to HBO system in the
    Netherlands) in dairy management and training
  • At least 10 years of work experience in dairy training institutes,
    preferable with ample exposure to international students and context.
  • Some experience in practical training in developing countries and curriculum development

Contract duration and period

10 days during the month of June 2014

Proposal and deadline

The consultant is required to send in a short proposal containing a short write up of the proposed training program and his CV. He/she should clearly highlight the relevant work experience. The proposal should also contain the daily fee and other costs to be incurred such as DSA and travel expenses/visa.

The proposal and accompanying letter should be submitted to - and received by – SNV not later than 15 May 2014.
