Job Description
Under the framework of the upcoming GIZ-funded Enhancing Good Governance in Sudan project, we are seeking a pool of qualified and motivated part-time Consultants to support Sudanese civil society organizations (CSOs) with organizational and technical capacity development. This is a short-term, part-time contract, and selected consultants would either:
- lead organizational capacity assessment activities in-person in Uganda, Kenya, or another location
- lead technical and organizational development support virtually e.g. virtual trainings
Key Responsibilities:
All candidates should possess a strong background in facilitating capacity development and/or organizational development for CSOs, with demonstrated experience in fragile contexts within the MENA and/or East Africa regions. Sudanese consultants highly preferred. Candidates without fluency in Arabic will not be considered.
These positions are contingent upon award.
Each consultant will support the following activities (as assigned):
In-person organizational capacity assessments
- Prepare for the organizational capacity assessment and related participatory workshop elements (including communication with CSOs and preparing materials)
- Conduct in-person (in Kampala/Uganda, Nairobi/Kenya, or neighboring country) organizational capacity assessments in Arabic for CSOs
- Analyze and summarize the results (compile scores, analyze priority areas for capacity development, etc.)
- Support CSOs to develop a capacity action plan (prioritize, link identified gaps to support activities, etc.)
- Produce reports and a presentation on CSOs’ organizational capacity assessment results and goal
Virtual technical and organizational trainings
- Design, prepare, and deliver in-person and/or virtual trainings on the “additional technical areas of expertise” listed above (including developing training materials and strategies to address various levels of knowledge/expertise within and between CSOs)
- One-on-one coaching or mentoring to individual CSO(s)
- Facilitate peer learning sessions
Other
- Document CSOs’ progress on capacity action plan
- Customized additional trainings and/or hands on sessions with individual CSOs as needed
- Support development/revision of tools (e.g., finance manuals, HR policy, M&E framework)
- Contribute to project-level reporting, presentations, or other documentation
- All other duties as assigned.
Basic Requirements
- 3 years of professional experience in the MENA or East Africa region
- 3 years of professional experience in fragile contexts
- Proficient in Arabic C1-level, and English B2-level in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
- 3 years of professional experience in the sector of Capacity Development or Organizational Development for Civil Society Actors
- 3 years of professional experience in one or more of the following:
- Strategy and Business Plan Development
- Project/Program Management
- Finance, Accounting, or Procurement
- Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning
- Gender Mainstreaming
- Fundraising
- Communication and Advocacy
- Leadership Coaching or Institutional Governance
- Do No Harm or Risk and Security Management
- Women and Youth Empowerment
- Trauma-Sensitive Programming and Staff Care
- Community Mobilization and Advocacy
- Digital Security and/or Data Management
- Community-Based Conflict Resolution
- Capacity Development for Leadership Skills
Master’s degree, German Diploma, or equivalent in one of the following:
- Gender Studies
- Peace and Conflict, Security Studies or Risk Management
- Psychology
- Other relevant fields

Preferred Qualifications:
- Certificate in Organizational Development, Change Management, Coaching, Training of Trainers, or Training Facilitation, with training totaling 80 hours or more
- Geographically located in MENA or East Africa with the ability to travel to Uganda and/or Kenya
