Job Description

Background: FLAG International Afghanistan (FIA) is an AISA-registered subsidiary of FLAG International, LLC (FI)based in Kabul providing Afghan entrepreneurs, businesses, government and community groups with agribusiness support, business planning, finance facilitation and training opportunities designed to maximize their economic, social and political outreach and impact. FIA is currently implementing a project that strengthens capacity within existing and newly created agricultural cooperatives by assisting them to define and implement a strategy and business plan, increase production, build human capital etc.

Herewith FLAG International, LLC is seeking applications to fill in position of long term Cooperative Development Specialist.

Position Duties

  • Provide leadership and guidance to the team of national and international consultants overall project management;
  • Support establishment and management of cooperative development fund;
  • Contribute to policy drafting if necessary;
  • Support activities in relation to the creation of cooperatives, definition of their strategies and business plans, and supervision;
  • Assist in the identification and development of cooperatives’ quality specifications;
  • Support training activities (definition of training objectives, drafting of training materials and implementation of training programmes).
  • Implement and monitor cooperative projects - provide support for the establishment and management of cooperative infrastructures, and the procurement function;
  • Assist in the elaboration and supervision of an information dissemination programme.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree in Agricultural Economics, Rural Finance or other related areas;
  • 5-10 years of experience in cooperative management and in the provision of training in the agriculture and rural sectors;
  • Knowledge of Afghanistan and its agriculture is required;
  • Experience in post-Soviet transition economies (Eastern Europe, Central Asia) is highly desired;
  • Experience in working with a range of stakeholders that include the private sector, government, agribusiness cooperatives, and farmers’ associations.
  • Proficiency and English and French is essential;
  • Dari / Pashto skills are a strong plus
