Job Description

The IRC’s Development Department raises $45 million in annual support from individuals and institutions. The Corporate & Foundation Relations Unit (CFR) is charged with raising $15+ million from private foundations, corporate foundations, and from areas within companies including corporate social responsibility, community relations, marketing, sponsorships, workplace giving, and matching gifts. CFR plays a critical role developing complex proposals and reports, matching institutional funder interests with IRC’s far-ranging programs and priorities, and engaging board members, technical units, and international and resettlement staff in the process of cultivating corporate and foundation donors.

As part of a seven-member CFR team, the Officer plays a critical role liaising with staff from IRC’s international and domestic programs, technical units, and finance to conceptualize and implement funding strategies; cultivate prospective and current donors; initiate, design, and oversee donor meetings; and develop persuasive proposals and reports. The Officer will manage a portfolio of 60+ current and prospective corporate and foundation funders. The position reports to the Director, Corporate & Foundation Relations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Strategically align corporate and foundation interests with IRC’s programmatic needs; Creatively utilize research and experience to draw linkages between IRC staff, volunteers, and corporate and foundation representatives; Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with funders and with IRC program staff from diverse backgrounds around the world; Synthesize complex information into clear, compelling proposals, reports, and letters; Adapt writing style to reflect the values of funders and their relationships with the IRC; Work with program, marketing, and finance staff to monitor progress in meeting donor expectations; Collaborate and participate in donor cultivation events; Work together with the Corporate and Foundation Relations staff to develop the annual strategic plan; Participate in special assignments as needed.

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelors Degree Minimum 5 years experience working with corporate and foundation funders, or related experience Excellent writing, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills Must be highly organized, creative, and detail-oriented, and work effectively under pressure with competing priorities Superb research, data-collection, organizational, and time-management skills Ability to learn quickly and to plan for and manage multiple projects while working in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines Flexible work attitude, with the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment; Demonstrated interest in social justice, international development, human rights, or U.S. based immigrant communities a plus Proficiency with PC fundraising and office software
