As per November we are looking for a Country Director Benin.
Helvetas implements a programme in Benin since 1995 with projects in the thematic areas of water & sanitation, vocational training & non formal education and rural economy. A new country strategy is under elaboration and will set the frame for the period 2023-2026. In the light of this new country strategy, Helvetas aims at further developing the programme in the field of vocational training and skills development, while maintaining a focus on water & sanitation.
MAIN TASKS
As Country Director you ensure that the country programme is implemented efficiently and effectively within the frame of the Helvetas organisational strategy, the country strategy and complies with our regulations. You are overseeing the collaboration with the government, civil society and private sector for the implementation of the programme and you further build and strengthen the network and relationships with central and local governments, strategic donor partners (particularly SDC) and non-governmental development partners. Active engagement in acquisition endeavours to further develop a sound project portfolio and to guarantee a sound funding base for the programme in Benin is an important part of your job as well. You will conduct frequent project supervision visits particularly to the North of Benin.
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
For this challenging position you have an academic degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Natural or Social Sciences, Economy or in a similar domain. You have at least 15 years of experience in development cooperation whereof six years in a senior management position, preferably in African countries. Sound thematic expertise in one of the main working areas of the programme in Benin is an important asset. You are skilled in programme cycle management, including gender and social equity aspects, and you are familiar with outcome-based M&E systems. Competences in context analysis, strategic processes and a track record in policy dialogue and successful acquisition of projects and mandates are needed. You are an engaging personality with persuasive power who also acts as mediator and mentor. Moreover, you are a strong networker and communicator with excellent conceptual and intercultural competencies. You have excellent writing and communication skills in French and fluent in English.
