For our country organization based in Jacmel, Haiti we are looking for a motivated individual to join our organization as per April 2024 or upon agreement.
Helvetas has been active in Haiti for more than 40 years. Currently, the portfolio comprises of twelve projects contributing to the economic and social development of the country. The current programme strategy focuses on adaptation to climate change, environmental governance, and Humanitarian Response with a Nexus approach. Helvetas aims at strengthening the capacities of local actors and counts both government institutions and civil society organizations as its valued partners. Gender, social equity, and conflict sensitive implementation approaches coupled with a focus on policy dialogue contribute to sustainable development.
YOUR MAIN TASKS
- As Country Director for Haiti, you ensure that the country programme is implemented efficiently and effectively within the frame of the Helvetas organizational policies and the country strategy for Haiti.
- You ensure that the organizational working principles are applied, and the country programme strategy is implemented.
- You further build and foster the network and relationships with central and local governments, strategic donor partners and non-governmental development partners.
- Active engagement in acquisition endeavors, to diversify and further consolidate a sound project portfolio of Helvetas in Haiti, is a crucial part of your function.
- You conduct regular project supervision visits to the operational areas and systematically explore and develop opportunities to strengthen the relevance and impact of the Helvetas support to local communities and implementing partners.
- You ensure safety and security of all Helvetas employees and operations in the country.
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
- For this challenging position, you present an academic degree (MA, MSC or equivalent) in Social or Natural Science, Economic or Development Studies or in a similar domain.
- You have at least 5 years of experience in a senior management position in development cooperation and at least 15 years of experience in development cooperation overall, preferably some in Haiti or in a fragile context.
- You bring along excellent leadership qualities as well as valuable experience in coaching and developing individuals and teams in intercultural contexts.
- You have sound experience working in fragile contexts and in crisis management.
- Sound knowledge and experience in project cycle and financial management including outcome-based M&E systems, in strategic and budgeting processes, a track record in networking and policy dialogue with government as well as external support agencies and in successful acquisition of projects and mandates are mandatory.
- In addition, you are sensitized to issues of gender and social justice and to conflict-sensitive programme management.
- Excellent communication competences are a must. Moreover, you are a strong networker, and your conceptual, intercultural, and visionary competencies are outstanding.
- You are fluent in French (including excellent writing skills) and English. Any other language (Creole, Spanish or German) is an asset.

The duty station is Jacmel, with regular travels in the region and to Port-au-Prince. Please note, this in a non-family duty station.
