Australia Assists
Australia Assists is an Australian Government program that deploys skilled humanitarian specialists to support multilateral agencies, governments, civil society and communities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and conflict. Australia Assists aims to save lives, alleviate suffering, maintain human dignity in the wake of crises, and strengthen preparedness for future emergencies.

Tetra Tech International Development manage the Australia Assists program on behalf of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).

Key responsibilities

  • Oversee the deployment lifecycle, ensuring efficient engagement, safe deployment, performance monitoring, and effective partner support, and incorporating GEDSI, CCDR, and capacity strengthening objectives.
  • Lead the annual planning process to determine deployment priorities.
  • Manage the Rapid Response mechanism, ensuring senior oversight and effective communication with DFAT, enabling dedicated support to DFAT requests for assistance.
  • Manage subcontractor relationships, ensuring consistency of support, value for money and reporting across all Australia Assists deployment types.
  • Work with the Australia Assists Program Team to maintain and review the Rapid Response roster, manage risks, ensure capability, and support compliance with health, safety, and security policies.

Selection criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as international development, public administration, project management, business administration, social sciences, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience (typically 5+ years) at a senior management level, in a project-based logistics role, ideally in an international development and/or humanitarian context.
  • Experience supporting large-scale, geographically dispersed mobilisations of people in complex stakeholder contexts.
  • Proficiency in using project management software and tools, such as Power BI.
  • Exceptional leadership skills, with a history of successfully leading and developing high-performing teams and addressing performance shortfalls swiftly and fairly.
