Deputy Chief of Party - Guatemala Support Services

Job Description

Nickol Global Solutions (NGS) is seeking an experienced Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) to provide support to the Chief of Party and leadership in the overall project management for the anticipated United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Guatemala Support Services (GSS) Activity. The GSS Activity will enable USAID/Guatemala to efficiently respond to the technical support needs, including human resource staffing needs, both short-term and long-term, and effectively respond to USAID commitments under the U.S. Government’s Strategy Addressing the Root Causes of Central American Migration (Root Causes Strategy) and the Collaborative Migration Management Strategy released by the White House in July 2021. The DCOP will lead project operations in support of USAID/Guatemala’s objectives in areas of technical, administrative, communications, and program and operations support. This position is contingent upon award and will be a full-time role based in Guatemala. The anticipated start date is March 2022.

Duties:

The DCOP will have “day to day” management responsibilities of the program operations, to include overseeing human resource, finance, and physical infrastructure. Specifically, s/he will:

  • Serve as the acting principal institutional liaison to USAID/Guatemala and fulfill related duties in the absence of the COP;
  • Oversee project operations to ensure compliance, efficiency, and resourcefulness;
  • Maintain relationships across a variety of relevant stakeholders, including USG representatives, Guatemalan line ministries and staff, non-governmental organizations (local, regional, and international), the private sector, and other donor organizations;
  • Support the GSS Activity COP in the development and quality control of deliverables;
  • Support the coordination of project activities in consultation with USAID and key stakeholders;
  • Manage a team of operational and human resources specialists;
  • Mentor local staff to carry out project activities and build new local capacity; and
  • Ensure client satisfaction, operational excellence, and compliance with contractual requirements and with local labor laws

Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Management, Business Administration, Social Sciences, Industrial Engineering, or a related field;
  • A minimum of seven years of experience with progressively increasing responsibility managing development programs involving multiple partners and stakeholders in a developing country context;
  • A minimum of three years prior experience as a Deputy Program Director, Deputy Chief of Party, or departmental lead role of a program or activity;
  • Demonstrated ability through previous experience to establish and maintain productive working relationships with a wide network of partners and stakeholders;
  • Demonstrated ability through previous experience to liaise with senior government officials, dignitaries, executives of non-governmental organizations, and the for-profit business community, and senior members of the donor community; and
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing and oral presentation skills in English and Spanish.
