Job Description
Job Summary Reporting to and in partnership with the Executive Director (ED), the Development Officer will spearhead development efforts as Seeds of Africa continues to grow. A new position in the organization, the Director will have the opportunity to expand the existing development function.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute Seeds of Africa’s annual fundraising plan in collaboration with ED.
- Spearhead Seeds of Africa’s current Dream School fundraising Campaign in collaboration with ED.
- Secure financial support from individuals, foundations and corporations.
- Manage Database and oversee staff, interns and volunteers responsible for data entry and gift processing.
- Collaborate with ED in expanding Seeds of Africa’s major donors.
- Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with individual donors.
- Create and execute a strategy for a large sustained base of annual individual donors.
- Oversee special events through the year.
- Develop and track proposals and reports for all foundation and corporate fundraising.
- Develop, create and continue to improve monthly fundraising reports to ED.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Sociology, Psychology, Finance, English, Business or related discipline required (MA preferred).
- 5-Plus years experience in Development.
- Demonstrated excellence in organizational and managerial skills.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in Database management.
- Experience developing compelling sales/marketing presentations and ability to provide examples.
- Proven history of exceeding goals and objectives.
- Ability to accomplish both a high output expectation and high quality work.
- Comfort in a fast paced, rapidly shifting and evolving workplace required.
- Fluency with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.

About the Organization
Seeds of Africa is a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to educate and nurture children and their families by providing quality education and community development programs in Adama, Ethiopia. We move beyond the traditional aid model by shifting from mere relief efforts, to providing students, families, and communities with the skills they need to support themselves and find local solutions to fight poverty, increase civic participation, and enhance community re-investment. We began in 2008 as an after-school program, and have since grown into a full-time school that serves pre-k to 2nd grade students, and a community development program that serves their mothers and other female guardians. Seeds of Africa is currently in the midst of its Dream School Campaign: a two year, $2.2 million campaign to build a world-class school and community center that serves 600 students – from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade – and their families. We are looking for a dynamic individual to join our New York team as the Director of Development.
