Job Brief

• Support the management of Australia’s development assistance to the Solomon Islands
• Position based in Australian High Commission, Solomon Islands
• Full-time contract until 31 December 2026

Program Background

Australia’s Overseas Development Assistance (ODA) to the Solomon Islands focuses on supporting sustainable development and fostering economic growth through targeted investment in key areas such as infrastructure, health, education, and governance. Our assistance aims to enhance the quality of life for Solomon Islanders, promote stability and resilience, and strengthen bilateral relations between Australia and the Solomon Islands. By collaborating closely with Solomon Island stakeholders and managing contractors, Australia seeks to address pressing development challenges, support the achievement of national development goals, and contribute to the broader regional stability and prosperity.

The Role

Working directly to the AHC First Secretary, Development, Finance and Operations, the adviser will play a critical role in ensuring effective oversight of a diverse portfolio of development investments, fostering strong stakeholder relationships, and supporting the strategic implementation of Australia’s Development Partnership Plan (DPP) with the Solomon Islands.

About You

To be successful, you must have the following;

• Advance degree in international development, development management or other related fields
• Minimum 15 years of development program and policy management experience, particularly in the Pacific region
• Demonstrated excellent technical knowledge in international development, including experience with Australia’s development program and managing contractors
• Demonstrated ability to engage and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, including government officials, contractors, and donor partners
• Demonstrated ability to manage, monitor and oversee budget
• Demonstrated excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences
• Demonstrated strong understanding of Australia’s procurement policies and processes.
• Demonstrated strong analytical skills, sound judgment and capacity to think and work strategically and politically
• Demonstrated experience in in collecting, analyzing, and presenting data to support development goals and showcase impact

Remuneration
The successful candidate will be remunerated against the international and national remuneration framework
