Job Description

Position Summary:

As Director of Ethics, Risk and Compliance, lead and drive the Ethics, Risk and Corporate Compliance (ERC) Programs by proactively identifying opportunities for risk controls, education & training and/or refining guidelines and protocols to ensure business practices and activities comply with Corus’ internal guidelines, government and donor regulations, and legal requirements of the many countries in which we operate.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop frameworks (policies, procedures, processes, and tools) and reports as needed to evaluate, manage, mitigate, monitor and report on ethics, risk and compliance matters.
  • Serve as a strategic business partner to the family of Corus companies by providing oversight, direction, and support to the business and senior management by and providing advice on the interpretation of rules and regulations.
  • Design, implement and manage an effective Ethics & Compliance Framework including policy, processes and tools to ensure business activities comply with Corus’ policies, donor rules, applicable government regulations and legislative requirements of the countries in which we operate.
  • Prepare and conduct annual and ongoing Ethics, Risk & Compliance training, education, and communication for staff, partners and suppliers.
  • Oversight of Conflict of Interest and Gifts & Entertainment programs ensuring appropriate identification, evaluation, resolution and documentation of potential conflicts.
  • Manage and triage compliance concerns and reports received through Convercent hotline.
  • Conduct thorough, timely and objective compliance related investigations and partner with other areas such as Internal Audit, Human Resources and Legal.
  • Oversee, manage and maintain Power BI compliance dashboard.
  • Refresh and own the Corus Enterprise Risk Management Framework, including policy, processes, and tools, suitable for the needs of the organization.
  • Oversee Corporate Risk Register capturing and mitigating realized and foreseeable risks across global activities.
  • Develop a network of liaisons who are responsible for Ethics, Risk & Compliance matters across Corus organizations, and provide coaching, technical subject matter expertise and staff training opportunities.
  • Stay abreast of standards and requirements, including all relevant laws, rules and industry standards and company practices and provide timely communications to those impacted.
  • Help develop, improve, and maintain third-party risk management controls and associated policies and procedures.
  • Undertake special projects and support other ERC initiatives as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 8 years’ progressively responsible experience managing legal risk, ethics and corporate compliance; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience must include working for a global organization receiving USG funding.
  • Experience conducting investigations.
  • Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills coupled with the ability to communicate effectively with others at all levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency in writing reports or similar documents to a professional standard.
  • Ability to develop effective presentations and training material for all levels within the organization including the ability to successfully present complex subject matter to Corus’ Senior Leadership Team, Board of Directors, Audit and Risk Committee, staff, and others.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Strong analytical aptitude with good reasoning skills.
  • Ability to display strong interpersonal skills and interact in a professional and tactful manner.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Abilities in Spanish and/or French is desirable.
