Job Description
Corus International is seeking a Director, General Accounting to join its Finance Department. This is a hybrid remote position based in our office in Washington, DC or Baltimore, Maryland and working two days in the office with Tuesday being a core office day.
Position Summary
The Director, General Accounting (D/GA) oversees all headquarters general accounting operations, domestic payroll and cash management, and helps coordinate the annual independent audit process. This position develops, recommends, implements and maintains accounting and administrative policies and procedures for a wide-ranging set of activities including financial accounting and reporting. This position has responsibility for ensuring internal control procedures with the general accounting function and plays an important role in the integration of financial systems through the Corus family of organizations.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage month end close process, daily cash management and complex accounting entries.
- Oversee general ledger maintenance, treasury/banking accounting, fixed asset accounting, cost allocations accounting, miscellaneous revenue accounting, as well as other accounting functions.
- Direct and coordinate the smooth processing of all daily accounting operations including processing of accounts payable, cash receipts, journal entries, allocations, accruals, payroll journals, other disbursements, and adjustments.
- Oversee and verify input of transactional activity from subsidiary organizations.
- Direct and coordinate monthly reconciliation of general ledger accounts including bank reconciliations.
- Direct monthly and quarterly general ledger analysis on various asset, liability, revenue, and expense accounts.
- Ensure smooth and effective integration of all financial transactions and reporting systems.
- Serve as System Administrator of accounting systems (Anybill, MIP, ESP) ensuring that integration and security and access controls are appropriate and effective.
- Monitor, assess, and manage daily cash flow and account balances and initiate action as needed to move funds between accounts to manage cash effectively. Proactively update monthly and quarterly cash flow models.
- Serve as System administrator of all domestic bank accounts, ensuring that security and access controls are appropriate and effective.
- Manage the foreign exchange currency platform, and process and document international wire transactions.
- Manage, execute and journal federal drawdowns from the HHS platform.
- Maintain the corporate chart of accounts (COA) ensuring that new codes are created and follow the current COA structure.
- Design and deliver training on chart of accounts, expense reporting, credit card usage, AP and wire processing and requests.
- Maintain, update and distribute as necessary changes to the Finance and Accounting Manual (FAM).
- Provide day-to-day support to Corus budget holders and staff related to proper application of Corus finance policies, financial and third-party reporting support, and systems support.
- Support preparation of the annual Financial Statement Audit, Uniform Guidance Audit, and IRS Form 990(s).
- Support the development of the annual NICRA proposal and other cost recovery calculations.
- Assist as needed with research regarding application of GAAP, Corus policies, and other relevant guidance (such as joint costs, revenue recognition, coding, etc.)
- Supervise, manage and develop the general accounting staff.
- Ensure excellent customer service by providing timely and accurate information to stakeholders, as needed.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting required.
- CPA/CMA/CA and/or master’s degree preferred.
- A minimum of 8 years relevant experience, including 3 years of supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of non-profit accounting practices and experience with international relief and development programs required.
- Knowledge of relevant US government and international accounting rules and regulations.
- Experience with MIP or similar systems for general accounting.
- Experience with business intelligence tools such as Business Objects and Adaptive Planning is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical, problem solving and presentation skills.
- Supervisory skills and experience.
- Strong communication, teamwork, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
- Flexibility and the willingness and ability to respond to a rapidly changing environment and manage multiple priorities and projects while working as part of an inter-departmental team.
- Spoken and written fluency in English.

Working Conditions, Travel and Environment
- Corus has a hybrid work policy, allowing work to be done remotely; 2-3 days/week minimum in the office is required. The employee must be available to work outside normal office hours or on the weekends as required.
- This position must be able to travel as required for standard domestic business purposes.
- If applicable, must have authorization to work in the country of assignment.
