JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Development plans, directs, and coordinates fundraising activities for Planned Giving prospects and donors in the Western Region of the United States, with a particular focus on the California market.
A member of a national Individual Giving team, the Director is part of a national Planned Giving strategy group and will report directly to the Executive Director, Planned Giving. Additionally, the Director and their supervisor will partner closely with the Associate Vice President who manages the East and West Coast teams.
The Director will be responsible for developing and implementing cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for their portfolio of donors.
The Director is expected to maintain an active travel schedule of personal visits with donors and initiate one-on -one engagement and solicitation opportunities.

Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years professional experience in a fundraising role
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Familiarity with all aspects of fundraising concepts, including Planned Giving, Major Gifts, and stewardship functions
- Passion and commitment for CARE’s mission and values
- Has excellent communication and writing skills, good judgment and discretion, and the ability to successfully interact with donors, board members, and staff at all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to establish, cultivate, and steward strong relationships with internal and external audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to build successful innovative donor engagement strategies.
- Ability to develop and execute fundraising strategies and plans that integrate into the organization’s mission, priorities and goals.
- Uses compelling arguments to gain the support and commitment of others
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience at a large non-profit and or/ an international NGO
- Experience with Planned Giving solicitations
- Knowledge of Planned Giving vehicles
