The Director of ESP provides technical leadership to the MCA Project Directors, implementing partners and project stakeholders to ensure conformity with MCA and Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) established procedures and frameworks that are essential to ensuring the integrity of environmental and social performance of all compact-funded activities. The ESP Director will provide substantive representation and supports the DCEO – Projects and other Project Directors to effectively engage relevant government ministries and bodies, international donors, and their implementing partners in areas that impact the short and long term success of the Compact. The ESP Director will also ensure compliance of program activities with relevant national environmental and social laws and regulations, MCC environmental guidelines and International Finance Corporation (IFC) performance standards for environmental and social sustainability, including resettlement, stakeholder engagement, climate change, and health and safety requirements across all program functions. The ESP Director will provide substantive representation, and support MCA-Sierra Leone leadership to effectively engage relevant government ministries and bodies, international donors and their implementing partners in areas that impact the short and long terms success of the Compact.
The Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) in Sierra Leone, collaborating with the government of Sierra Leone and the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) of the Government of the United State of America, delivers projects under the $500 million compact that address development challenges in the country through the implementation of the Power Sector Reform Project, the Transmission Backbone Project and the Distribution and Access Project.
