The Director of Finance manages the activities and personnel for all aspects of a significant finance or accounting area in the Texas business unit and provides high-level financial analysis to senior management. Generally responsible for the management, maintenance, and reporting of financial data and the monitoring of management controls and processes to ensure compliance with TNC policies and procedures, relevant legal and regulatory frameworks, and financial/management best practice. The Director of Finance is a subject matter expert and serves as a resource to the Texas Business Unit, as applicable, including as an advisor to senior level staff. They work closely with functions in Worldwide Office Finance and with other departments and organizational units as necessary for the effective functioning of their program area.

We’re looking for someone that can develop and manage annual budgets and quarterly/annual financial reports, engage our board in financial management and financial sustainability, serve as the primary advisor for staff on financial matters and organizational policies and procedures, and work with our philanthropy team to generate budgets for funding proposals and manage the allocation of awarded funds. The Director of Finance is a senior member of the Texas Business Unit and will work toward meeting the strategic priorities of the program.


The ideal candidate should have exceptional communication and collaboration skills and experience in the management of data and personnel. They will oversee centralized administrative processes including accounts payable, general purchasing requests, and contract management. WHAT YOU’LL BRING
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field and 7 years related work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience developing budgets, performing high level financial analysis and recommending corrective action as appropriate.
  • Experience working with computer and information management systems, Excel spreadsheets and databases for financial analysis, fiscal management, and/or financial reports.
  • Experience recruiting, supervising, and developing staff.
  • Experience in developing, directing, and implementing multiple projects.
  • Experience acting as a consultant/advisor to senior executives.
  • Experience working with U.S. Federal government circulars (OMB Circulars A-110, A-122 and A-133) and state and local regulations.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • MBA, CPA and/or CIA, and/or CFA
  • Experience with GAAP and not-for-profit accounting principles, practices, and regulations, including government grants accounting and reporting.
  • Experience in financial forecasting to meet multi-year operational and project objectives.
  • Experience in coordinating funding strategies to achieve conservation outcomes.
  • Experience in managing the accounting and reporting of financial data to various public and private funders and agencies.
