Director of Membership Development

Job Description

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for planning, writing, designing, and executing integrated strategies to grow membership. Goals include, but are not limited to: increasing number of new members, increasing retention, and building a strong prospect database.

Essential Responsibilities:

Subject to approval by the Senior Director of Membership Operations, set annual written goals for this function, which include the establishment and review of appropriate metrics through which to assess progress toward achievement of the stated goals.

Prospects

  • Prepare and execute marketing campaigns with robust segmentation to attract leads using traditional and digital mediums.
  • Establish event-based triggers and monitor engagement rates across nurturing campaigns.
  • Work with chapter and committee staff to organize membership efforts among ACC communities, including developing projects and initiatives to increase recruitment.

Membership Acquisition

  • Develop and launch campaigns to convert prospects to ACC members.
  • Collaborate with staff across ACC to leverage programs and activities to ensure acquisition content is fresh and relevant.
  • Implement annual Member-Get-A-Member campaign to engage existing members in membership recruitment. Identify and implement new tactics to increase program’s return.
  • Collaborate with other ACC departments to leverage outreach opportunities.

Membership Renewals

  • Prepare renewal letters, invoices and strategies to boost retention rates.
  • Leverage data to deliver segmented messages across retention campaigns.
  • Work with team and external partners to mail invoices incorporating industry best practices.
  • Coordinate with corporate membership staff to ensure consistent membership messaging.
  • Working with the Membership team, launch series of new member communications among first and second year members to increase member retention.

Data

  • Create system for tracking all campaigns.
  • Use data-backed analysis to respond to trends and maximize marketing return.
  • Report on monthly activities across the full sales cycle.
  • Maintain data on the in-house counsel market in key areas.
  • Work with IT and the Membership team to implement a process for ensuring database is current and records contain key demographic information.

Minimum Requirements:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, sales, business administration, or a related field.

Work Experience:

· 5 or more years of work experience in a marketing capacity, ideally in a professional association environment. Acquisition/Sales marketing experience is a plus.

· Proven success in writing copy for membership acquisition and retention as well as executing and managing traditional and digital campaigns.

· Proven record of increasing membership

· Experience using analytics to interpret outcomes, identify campaign opportunities, and drive membership-marketing decisions.

· Database experience, ideally with NetForum and/or HubSpot.

Skills:

· Fluency in English and a second language required.

· Excellent writing and oral communications skills.

· Proven project management skills with ability to execute and deliver on multiple projects.

· Google Analytics and Lead Generation software experience required. Proficient in Microsoft Office and knowledge of association management systems, CMS helpful.
