Job Description

We are seeking a mission-aligned, highly motivated Director of Programmes to join the Senior Leadership Team of 2X Global at a pivotal moment in our growth. This role will help shape 2X Global’s operational DNA as well as global programmatic credibility. This is only the second time in the organisation’s history that we have opened a senior leadership role externally – a testament to both the strength of our team and the importance of this appointment.

The Director will play a central role in ensuring that 2X Global delivers consistently and at scale — translating strategic priorities into execution across teams, building capacity, and enhancing our systems for performance and accountability. This role is central to unlocking billions of dollars of gender-smart capital with a focus on long-term strategy and field building. While directly overseeing our flagship initiatives (the 2X Challenge and 2X Certification) and our communications and thought leadership agenda, the role is much broader: it is the anchor role that ensures coherence, delivery, and organisational resilience across all of our work.

We are seeking a leader who thrives at the intersection of strategy, programme delivery, organisational management, and stakeholder engagement, and who brings the vision, credibility, and collaborative spirit necessary to accelerate systemic change in global capital markets.

About the Role

The Director of Programmes is a key executive role with oversight of strategy implementation and programmatic management, reporting directly to the CEO and sitting on the Senior Leadership Team, which includes two further Directors. This Director is responsible for the overall leadership and coordination of 2X Global’s initiatives, ensuring we deliver against our goals, uphold our brand and credibility, and integrate effectively with fundraising, compliance, operations and communications.

The Director manages three Leads, mid-senior level colleagues, each with their own team. In addition, the Director plays a cross-cutting leadership role across all programme areas by ensuring effective capacity planning, consistency of delivery, compliance with internal processes, and opportunities for cross-organisational learning and synergies.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Organisational Management

  • Translate strategy into delivery: Act as an operational anchor within the Senior Leadership Team, translating 2X Global’s strategic priorities into actionable, cross-functional programmatic plans with clear accountability frameworks.
  • Drive planning and performance: Lead annual and multi-year planning, capacity reviews, and strengthen systems for performance management, escalation, and talent growth.
  • Build and coach teams: Develop and mentor senior Leads and Programme Managers to ensure consistency, collaboration, and high standards of delivery.
  • Foster organisational resilience: Partner with the CEO to anticipate challenges and design solutions that protect capacity, culture, and sustainability.
  • Integrate and position for impact: Collaborate across leadership functions to align programme delivery with fundraising, compliance, and communications — positioning 2X Global as the go-to authority in gender-smart investing.

Programmatic Oversight

  • Lead and integrate flagship initiatives: Set strategic direction for the 2X Challenge 2X Certification and other programmes ensuring alignment, quality, and impact across both initiatives.
  • Scale innovation and value creation: Drive programme evolution and value-add services that enhance market relevance.
  • Strengthen teams and delivery: Manage and mentor colleagues to foster collaboration, learning, and high performance across global teams.
  • Engage stakeholders for growth: Build and maintain relationships with members, verifiers, investors, and partners to expand participation and credibility.
  • Adapt and optimise for impact: Monitor performance and respond to external shifts (market, regulatory, ESG) to sustain quality, influence, and strategic adaptability.

Communications, Research & Thought Leadership

  • Elevate 2X Global’s voice and influence: Position the organisation as the leading authority and convener on gender-smart investing across global finance and development platforms.
  • Provide strategic communications leadership: Guide and support the Communications Lead to deliver impactful, timely outputs across digital, print, and events.
  • Uphold brand and message integrity: Ensure all communications reflect organisational strategy, tone, and quality standards, reinforcing 2X Global’s credibility and reach.
  • Shape and amplify thought leadership: Oversee the development of reports, opinion pieces, and convenings that translate complex insights into accessible, influential narratives.
  • Expand visibility through partnerships: Strengthen reputation and reach through strategic media engagement and collaboration at key global events.

Skills and Experiences

  • 10+ years of professional experience in programme management and leadership.
  • Deep understanding of gender lens investing, including application of the 2X Criteria across investor types, sectors, and financial instruments.
  • Familiarity with DFIs, MDBs, and institutional investors; existing networks in these communities are an advantage.
  • Strong strategic thinking and execution skills -able to translate vision into actionable plans across complex, multi-stakeholder programmes.
  • Strong grasp of digital collaboration tools, data systems, and MEL frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, grow, and inspire high-performing teams, including line management of senior staff and remote global teams.
  • Skillful facilitation, relationship-building, and communication skills with senior leaders, policymakers, and diverse global stakeholders.
  • Experience representing organisations externally, including public speaking, keynote presentations, thought leadership, and media engagement - ability to travel internationally as needed.
  • Cultural intelligence and adaptability across geographies and sectors, with sensitivity to power and equity dynamics.
  • Fluency in English required; additional languages an advantage.
  • Alignment with 2X Global’s mission and demonstrable commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary – USD $110–140k depending on experience and credentials plus potential for discretionary performance-based bonus. Paid through local payroll with social security and standard benefits.
  • Flexible work hours with the understanding of collaboration across global time zones.
  • Generous vacation package to promote work-life balance.
  • Additional benefits such as primary caregiving and parental support.
  • Professional development opportunities (e.g. training, conferences, learning budget).
  • The opportunity to work with a talented and deeply committed global team of professionals.
