Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Manager/Technical Lead

ICF’s Energy and Advisory Services Business is growing and we seek an experienced consultant to join our leadership team in our Distributed Energy Resources business. Our growing advisor services work is focused on the integration and value of distributed energy resources to achieve our clients’ environmental, business and policy objectives. DER includes renewable and clean distributed generation, distributed storage, demand response, energy efficiency and electric vehicles. Our DER advisory services includes assisting our clients in assessing the opportunities and impacts through strategic planning, market development, investment planning, operations and customer engagement. As a DER Manager/Technical Lead you would be responsible for working with the DER practice area leader to drive our strategy, develop new analytical and consulting offerings, work with our existing DER team, and contribute to business development efforts in this market.

Experience engaging with people and organizations across the DER market and an understanding of client’s needs and key market drivers is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities will include analysis and consulting delivery, business development, , thought-leadership, and team development.

Analysis and Consulting Delivery:

  • Assist in developing analysis quantifying the benefits of DER
  • Manage consulting assignments, including outlining and drafting deliverables, defining analyses, directing consultants and taking responsibility for final work product
  • Manage and grow client relationships by delivering excellent value, consistency, quality and dependability. Ensure quality of delivery and client satisfaction. Business Development & Sales:
  • Assist in managing the DER client relationships.
  • Assist in driving DER Business Development with both new and existing clients
  • Develop and grow new relationships with energy managers and industry contacts.
  • Contribute to sales efforts on key identified leads; assist with drafting proposals and making presentations.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, business, policy or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience managing teams and consulting engagements.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering consulting solutions to utilities, DER services firms, DER technology firms and public entities.
  • Demonstrated understanding of current Power market issues including: utility economics, distribution-transmission infrastructure; value of solar; DER integration and valuation; alternative regulatory policies, and integrated grid technologies.
  • 7+ years of experience working in DER related power industry roles, including DER engineering-economic analysis, DER program development, strategic planning, distribution system engineering, technology development and regulatory case management.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Master’s Degree or above in engineering, business, policy or related field.
  • Experience in mentoring and managing staff.
  • Experience working effectively with technical and commercial business stakeholders, including strong facilitation skills.

  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision making capabilities.
  • Unquestionable business ethics, including the protection of proprietary and confidential information.
  • Ability to work with all levels of internal staff, as well as outside clients and vendors.
