We have a unique and exciting opportunity for the right candidate to work within a multi-disciplinary team within Staffordshire Children’s Advice and Support. You will be based a minimum of 3 days a week at Biddulph Town Hall, some weeks 5 days, other days where not working from Biddulph Town Hall you will be required to work at New Era’s Office in Hanley. This is a full-time role, fixed term until 15/09/2023.

Working as a Domestic Abuse Practitioner (DAP) in a Adult Specialist Worker (ASW) role. The role involves working closely with Children’s Social Care and other specialist agencies involved as part of a multi-disciplinary response to the family; where a child is at risk or potential risk; ensuring an holistic, joined up, problem solving approach.

As a Domestic Abuse Practitioner you will work alongside the other professionals in the ASW team, your role will be to focus on Domestic Abuse that is impacting the family, supporting to reduce risk and increase safety. You will use your knowledge to offer appropriate support, identify other services and directly offer interventions.

Upon receiving a referral from Staffordshire Children’s Advice and Support, you will check that we have consent of the person being referred. On having consent, you will be making contact with both victims of domestic abuse and those suspected of perpetrating domestic abuse to discuss support for there individual domestic abuse support needs. Upon acceptance you will onward refer into New ERA domestic abuse service, other than for victims that are identified as having brief intervention domestic abuse support needs. In these circumstances, you will meet these needs, as an ASW.

As an DAP (ASW) you will:

  • be an integral part of a multi-agency framework consisting of local partnerships within Staffordshire Children’s Advice and Support Service across Staffordshire.
  • co-locate and work closely with Children’s Safeguarding Team and other specialists involved as part of a multi-disciplinary response to the family where a child is at risk or potential risk; ensuring an holistic, joined up, problem solving approach. Empowering families.
  • provide a fully integrated, high-quality, front-line service to victims of domestic abuse, seeking to achieve joint outcomes for the victim and their children.
  • offer the service provided by New Era to perpetrators; and make onward referral to services.
  • Working within a responses to domestic abuse to keep safety central to all services for victims of domestic abuse.

You will need:

  • strong communication skills
  • experience of offering support and tailoring support plans.
  • Experience of working in the Domestic Abuse field with victims or those perpetrating domestic abuse. Alternatively, if you have worked in a similar field and have built knowledge on the complexities of Domestic Abuse and feel you can advocate on behalf of a victim within a social care setting then we would like to hear from you.
