Position Summary
IREX seeks an Editorial Consultant for the Egypt Civil Society Strengthening Program (ECSS) to work in the ECSS office in Cairo. The Egypt Civil Society Strengthening (ECSS) program is a three-year program designed to build the organizational and management capacity of Egyptian civil society organizations. Funded by USAID/Egypt’s Democracy and Governance Program and implemented by Management Systems International in partnership with FHI36O and IREX, the project provides technical assistance and support to individual Egyptian CSOs and the broader civil society to advocate for citizen interests and engage in a wide variety of civic action. The anticipated Level of Effort for this position is 120 days (October 29 – September, 2013).
This program and its diverse activities require substantial reporting in English on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis, as well as the production of training modules, presentations and other materials. Many members of the ECSS team are not native English speakers and most staff at partner CSOs do not speak English fluently, if at all. Additionally, there is a lot of effort required in determining, collecting and presenting the information necessary to ensure the reporting content effectively reflects the project activities, successes and lessons learned. Therefore, support is needed for the full-time editor on the project, and ECSS is recruiting for a part-time editing consulting to assist with native-level English-language reporting who can deliver well-written and results-oriented reports. The candidate must be a native-English speaker already based in Cairo (no support/benefits will be provided). Work will be approximately 10 days per month (2-3 days per week) on an as-needed basis.

Build capacity of staff to capture illustrative photographs and other visual materials for reporting
Support CSO partners in reporting skills, as a coordinated component of ECSS-supplied capacity building program
Solicit and write or edit success stories and other outreach materials
