Qualifications and Experience
The Regional Center for Educational Planning (RCEP)[1] is an Emirati organization established under the agreement signed between the Government of the United Arab Emirates and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2003. According to this agreement, RCEP is one of the UNESCO’s Category 2 centers[2] created according to 32 C/Resolution 11, by which the General Conference of UNESCO welcomed the initiative of the United Arab Emirates to respond to the pressing need of improving educational planning in the region, and approved the establishment of a Regional Educational Planning Centre (RCEP).
UAE Government supports RCEP financially and logistically since it was established. RCEP has a close partnership with UNESCO toward building national and regional capacities in education planning and policy, leadership and educational management, dissemination of knowledge, research. According to the last agreement signed between UAE and UNESCO, RCEP’s goals are:
(i) training in all aspects of education planning;
(ii) training in applied education research, by undertaking fact-finding and analysis work focused on specific needs of the Gulf countries and other States in the Arab region;
(iii) awareness-raising with regard to specific sector development issues which are of priority for the countries in the region;
In 2017, RCEP developed its strategic plan for the years (2017-2021) focusing on Planning Tools (Modules& Methodologies), Indicators and its utilization in planning, Education Foresight, Monitoring & Evaluation and SDG4/Education 2030. The strategic objectives and initiatives are as follows:
