Job Description
RTI International is recruiting for an Energy Specialist.• As a part of the Learning, Energy and Environment Development (LEED) Division within RTI•s International Development Group, this person will implement technical tasks and assignments, conduct energy-related research and contribute to business development and technical proposal writing.
•
Responsibilities include:
RESEARCH and WRITING
- Conduct market and sector analysis covering financial, economic, commercial, regulatory and policy aspects of energy development for specific countries;
- Develop sector-wide or issue-based assessments for specific countries, technologies, or markets
- Research best practices in the implementation of energy projects
- Conduct research new technologies and emerging trends in the energy sector
- Support research on specific subjects and development of written reports in various formats from blog posts to academic research articles to publicity and outreach materials
- Support specific writing assignments as identified by our clients
- Help organize and maintain databases, data sets, and other information repositories in support of knowledge management systems
PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION
- Work on/contribute to tasks of energy sector projects such as on-grid and off-grid renewable energy project development, electric utility operations improvement and loss reduction, energy sector planning, least cost generation planning, tariff analyses, demand-side management, electricity and gas market design, cross-border trade, transmission operations improvement, analysis and improvement of grid codes and technical rules, regulations and specifications.
- Serve as a project coordinator on energy projects and assist project manager with various technical and administrative tasks such as timely reporting, tracking project financials, onboarding consultants, and other administrative tasks that require comprehensive understanding of RTI-systems and the ability to complete tasks accurately and completely with little supervision, etc.
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AND PROPOSAL SUPPORT
- Contribute to expressions of interest and technical approaches in support of proposal preparation and business development efforts;
- Develop the technical portion of marketing materials pertaining to energy projects, new technologies and implementation approaches;
- Promote and represent the company in industry conferences, meetings,•and events;
- Prepare and edit project qualifications;
- Contribute to thought leadership in response to new developments in the energy sector.
- Take on new roles, in proposal development, over time based on developed capacity.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor•s degree in engineering is required; Master’s degree in engineering or business is preferred. At least 4 years of prior experience with emerging markets, developing world countries, and/or the energy sector required.
- Proven understanding of (or work experience with) energy sector projects such as renewable energy, off-grid, electric utility operations or energy sector reform.
- Proven technical writing skills, such as academic or research assignments, technical proposals, or similar. Prior experience in proposal development for competitive funding awards is preferred.
- Experience working on projects funded by donor agencies is preferred.
- Experience working as part of multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural teams in disbursed locations.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Expertise in energy/power sector technologies and trends, electric utility operations, on-grid and off-grid renewable energy technologies, energy efficiency and demand side management
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to communicate complex information to multiple audiences working in the international development
- Strong writing and business presentation skills, research, teamwork and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Excellent•analytical and problem-solving skills.••
- Must speak, read and write in English. Another foreign language fluency is a plus.
- Must be able to manage several tasks simultaneously and re-prioritize as necessary.
- Must work effectively under deadlines, both independently and as a team member.
- Must be able to produce accurate and complete documents in a timely manner.
- Must have excellent listening skills and highly developed sense of responsibility and commitment to customer service.
- Must be able to travel up to 33% of the time.
- Ability to work in the U.S. without requiring sponsorship.
