Project description:
Our client is installing a sugar milling plant, together with an associated boiler and co-generation facility and an effluent treatment plant, at two of its sites in Malawi (one in the North, one in the South). The plants will crush locally grown sugar cane to produce juice for downstream production purposes and syrup for storage for use in off-season. Co-generation facilities will produce sufficient power for the plant, with excess being fed into the national grid when not required. The effluent treatment plant will treat and dry a combination of effluent from downstream production processes together with boiler ash, filter cake and press mud to produce compost or fertiliser base.
Crown Agents is arranging finance and will be the prime contractor for the project and will in turn, through a back-to-back contract be appointing a sole EPC contractor for the supply, construction, installation and commissioning of both plants.
