Job Description

New Britain Palm Oil Limited (NBPOL) is seeking an experienced Environment Officer to oversee its environmental management systems and certifications within West New Britain, Papua New Guinea. NBPOL is a large vertically integrated, industrial producer of sustainable palm oil operating in Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. The West New Britain operations where this positon will be based, is certified under the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and Sustainable Agriculture Network / Rainforest Alliance.

The successful candidate of this role will be responsible for maintaining and improving the Environmental Management Systems within the WNB operations, as well as overseeing the ISO 17025 certified environment laboratory. This position reports directly to the Sustainability Manager, West New Britain.

Responsibilities

Environmental Officers’ responsibilities include:

  • implementation of company environmental policies and practices;
  • coordinating all aspects of environment management, pollution control, waste management and conservation;
  • developing and implementing environmental strategies and action plans that ensure corporate sustainable development;
  • ensuring compliance with legal, certification and company requirements;
  • coordinate internal and external High Carbon Stock (HCS) and High Conservation Value (HCV) assessments

Qualifications

  • degree in Environmental Science, Agriculture or Natural Resource Management
  • minimum 2-3 years’ experience in Environmental Management
  • drivers’ license, with a safe driving record

Other desirable skills include:

  • agricultural background or firm understanding of agricultural production systems
  • experience in ISO 14001 management systems, auditing and risk assessments
  • auditing experience with a good understanding of systems thinking
  • high level of computer literacy and basic understanding of GIS software
  • strong leadership, mentoring and training skills
  • can use initiative and work unsupervised
