GENERAL FUNCTION
Internews is seeking a Resident Advisor candidate for a potential program in Ethiopia. The 3-6 month program will pilot a Humanitarian Information Service (HIS) to create programming tailored for the information needs of refugees in partnership with the Administration for Refugee and Returnee Affairs (ARRA) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The Resident Advisor will provide consistent and high standard editorial oversight, training and mentoring and management support in a sensitive context. S/he is an experienced broadcast professional, especially in remote, post-conflict environments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Produce high quality humanitarian programming in the most appropriate language(s) covering key themes including but not limited to services available to affected communities, health, and protection issues.
- Train and mentor local reporter(s) working with Internews on humanitarian reporting and production and with participants from the refugee community.
- Manage the day-to-day relationship with government, UNHCR, and other stakeholders and liaise closely to ensure information needs are being meet and appropriate distribution methods are utilized.
- Provide project management services including financial tracking and contribution to donor reporting requirements.
- Coordinate with consultants and partners on final evaluation of the pilot program.
- Facilitate project set-up, including necessary infrastructure, accommodation, transport, procedures, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Fluency in spoken and written English.
- Minimum 5 years of radio news broadcast production experience.
- Experience in broadcast training and mentoring using hands-on participatory approaches.
- Proficient in use of digital field recording equipment, basic studio equipment and software, such as Adobe Audition, CoolEdit Pro and/or similar packages.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the international humanitarian sector
- Demonstrated supervisory and interpersonal skills including diplomacy, tact, and the ability to negotiate
- Excellent communication and reporting skills, both written and oral.
- Psychological resilience and a sense of humour.
- Experience and willingness to live in remote and challenging environments
- An understanding of the vision/mission, core values and objectives of Internews.
- Relevant university degree.
