Company Background: *

Mango Tree focuses on participatory education that involves the learner through use of active, fun exercises. We do projects that develop the capacity of educators, whether they are lead farmers, school teachers, or community health workers. We also make custom teaching and training materials for our own projects and those of international and local NGOs, government, and civil society organizations. Currently Mango Tree is a private limited company, though seeking NGO status by the end of 2006.

Job Description:

The Executive Director develops the direction and strategy of the company with a 3-4 year outlook. The Executive Director will design the fiscal strategy to ensure the sustainability of the business, improve processes for efficient running of the business, strengthen and revitalize departments, establish a working knowledge of our clients? goals and challenges, and work to establish systems that promote employee responsibility, productivity and personal development.

Job Responsibilities:

Leadership

1. Act as the primary spokesperson, articulating a clear vision and direction for Mango Tree, promoting the mission and building support for programs and initiatives 2. Identify, develop and direct the implementation of the company strategic plan 3. Provide leadership in developing programs and project ideas with the Board of Directors and staff, and implement those plans 4. Promote Mango Tree?s values and philosophy relating to triple bottom line (profits, planet, people) and creating positive impacts with rural communities

Administration and Management

5. Recruit, select and develop management team members 6. Ensure foundational strength and level of competency in all departments 7. Lead, motivate and inspire the management team to achieve the objectives of Mango Tree?s mission 8. Maintain and develop organizational culture, values, and reputation in its markets and with all staff, customers, suppliers, and partners

Fundraising and Development

9. Generate and develop new business in coordination with the Business Development Manager (BDM) 10. Increase awareness of Mango Tree?s products and projects through effective public relations 11. Develop and grow senior client relationships Financial Management 12. Ensure sound financial recording/reporting and optimal fiscal management 13. Ensure company profitability and adequacy of funding for projects with the Business Development Manager (BDM) 14. Develop, oversee, and manage annual budget as well as long term budget plans, with appropriate Board and staff participation Governance 15. Recruit and develop the constituency of the Board of Directors 16. Ultimately develop an accountability structure with the Board 17. Provide regular reports on achievements, financial standing, funding, outlook, direction, etc.

Skills Required:

- Ability to plan strategically and globally - Excellent written and oral communication - Excellent organizational skills; ability to empower staff and delegate work - Effective negotiation skills - Able to create an environment that is energetic, empowering, and dynamic - In-depth understanding of financial aspects of business - Computer skills (word, excel, powerpoint, others) Qualifications: - BA or BS degree required; graduate degree in business or specialist area preferred - Related experience, ideally in private and non-profit sectors, with progressive responsibility including senior management experience (5 years+) and working with boards of directors - Extensive professional experience managing significant client relationships - Experience with implementation and use of successful non-profit fiscal management and budgeting systems and controls - Commitment to, understanding of, and passion for serving low-income, underserved communities in developing countries - Track record of high level of performance, leadership, and creativity

Added Advantage:

- Knowledge of the health and education NGO sectors in Uganda/East African country - Knowledge of USAID, NGO and government procurement processes - Experience working in the non profit sector

Compensation:

Monthly salary 2,000,000 Uganda Shillings per month Accommodation contribution of 250,000 UgSh/month Lunch/Travel/Communication allowance for work days Work Permit covered by company For out of country national – airfare reimbursed upon successful completion of contract period
