OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME:
The Office of the Director-General provides global direction to the work of the Organization within the overall framework of WHO’s Constitution, so as to maximise Organization-wide contribution to the work of Member States in achieving significant gains in health status.
Description of duties:
Responsible for the effective planning of the Director-General’s schedule (internal and external meetings), including the coordination of travel plans, preparation of briefing notes and notes for the record.
Under the supervision of the Executive Director DGO, the incumbent provides strategic guidance, policy advice and direct administrative support to the Director-General in relation to her schedule for travel and meetings. She/he works with HQ clusters and departments, Regional and Country Offices, national governments and non-governmental organizations, as well as with international partners within and outside the United Nations system. The incumbent also coordinates, compiles and edits briefings to the Director-General provided by staff across the Organization . The incumbent is expected to work with a high level of independence while at the same time ensuring that DGO staff are informed and consulted.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Post graduate degree in political science, international development, public health or related field.
Skills:
Excellent organizational, project management and negotiation skills. Ability to work under pressure on multiple projects and keep deadlines. Ability to think creatively and strategically. Excellent writing and analytical skills. Diplomacy, tact and discretion.
Experience:
Essential: At least seven years of experience in strategic planning, development of health policies and strategies, external relations or related field. Experience with WHO or another organization of the UN system. Desirable: Similar experience of support to senior staff.
Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English or French with a good working knowledge of the other. Knowledge of other WHO languages would be an asset. Additional Information:
