Position Summary

The Finance & Investment Analyst performs financial analysis and reporting on investment opportunities to support Blue Forest’s growth initiatives. This role requires attention to detail, excellent analytical skills and the ability to work independently on multiple projects simultaneously. The Finance and Investment Analyst provides research, modeling, and qualitative and quantitative analytical support across a variety of areas such as private markets investments, FRB project development, financial and resource planning, and financial operations. Primary goals of this position at Blue Forest include the following: (1) serve as a versatile, shared resource across a wide variety of finance and investing tasks, (2) improve and assume ownership of our analytical systems and processes, and (3) contribute to a reputation of collaboration, diligence, and top-notch analysis on the quickly-growing Finance and Investment teams at Blue Forest.

Responsibilities & Duties

Quantitative Analysis and Modeling (50%)

• Build and maintain Excel models for:
  • Blue Forest budgets, forecasts, and scenario analysis
  • Forest Resilience Bond projects and aggregation vehicles
  • Blue Forest Asset Management investments and funds
  • Other finance and operational projects as needed
• Extract and communicate insights by analyzing quantitative information such as Blue Forest organizational spending, grant invoicing, and project costs
• Review and analyze financial due diligence materials for transactions

Qualitative Research and Analysis (35%)

• Support Investment team members on projects such as market research, investment due diligence and memos, and deal structuring and negotiations
• Support Finance team members on projects such as service provider selection, product implementation, and best practices research
• Write clear, concise memos to convey findings to internal audiences, including Executive Team and Investment Committee

Financial Systems and Processes (15%)

• Execute key portions of business processes, including budgeting, fund portfolio management, and ongoing investment management
• Drive continuous improvement and efficiency in financial operations and strategy

Additional Information

Blue Forest is a fully remote company with staff located across all four continental U.S. time zones. The Finance and Investment Analyst will be expected to be online during their respective standard working hours with occasional (i.e. once per month) morning or evening calls depending on their time zone. Blue Forest hosts an in-person team retreat each year, and team members may also have optional opportunities to visit project sites across the U.S. as needed

Qualifications

Blue Forest will prioritize the following qualifications in the hiring process; however, we do not expect candidates to fulfill all criteria and encourage all interested candidates to apply.

• 2+ years of finance and/or investing experience
• Strong Excel and data analysis skills
• Experience with financial modeling (discounted cash flow, financial statements, etc.)
• Initiative and desire to master and improve analytical workflows
• Clear written and verbal communication, including distillation of complex quantitative information
• Exposure to fixed income investments, private markets investments, nonprofit financial management, and/or forestry and climate finance is a plus
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, economics, or related field preferred but not required
• Demonstrated interest in and commitment to environmental conservation and climate resilience
