About the role


Cardno ID currently has an exciting opportunity for an experienced and committed Finance Director to join our Melbourne office. Reporting to the Asia Pacific Area Manager, the role will be responsible for Corporate and program financial management services for the Asia Pacific Area of Cardno International Development. S/he will liaise with Cardno head office and chief financial officer, as required, to ensure integrated budgeting and reporting of Area and Division finances.

This role will provide line management, mentoring and leadership to the finance team of around 20 staff based in Australia, Indonesia, Myanmar and the Philippines in delivering corporate and project accounting services across the Asia Pacific region. This is a key role, overseeing the forecasting of cashflow and financial performance. It will work closely with senior management, ensuring the integrity and application of accounting policies and procedures, systems and internal controls.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Provide professional financial and commercial management services to support the Asia Pacific Area manager and ID AP top management;
  • Oversee project set up, maintenance and closure, ensuring financial elements of contracts and variations are managed appropriately;
  • Collaboratively with the Group Tax team, manage statutory compliance requirements across various entities in Asia Pacific on a monthly and annual basis including transfer pricing practices and local statutory reporting;
  • Leading the review and presentation of the Area budget, forecast and monthly results to the wider Cardno Group, and working closely with the ID EMEA and US finance directors;
  • Support Area Manager in developing and executing Area budget as needed;
  • Provide regular and ad hoc project reports including financial performance, WIP, forecast, variance analysis, contract expenditure and commentary requirements to business unit managers;
  • Ensure contract adherence as well as accurate monthly billing in accordance with client requirements;
  • Advise business unit managers on financial aspects of special projects, as required;
  • Demonstrate leadership and commitment to the implementation of Cardno’s QMS (Quality Management System) and actively identifying and implementing business improvement processes and initiatives;

About you

The successful candidate will have 10 years of demonstrated experience in a role involving international operations and major projects accounting environment coupled with tertiary qualifications in accounting and / or commerce with CA / CPA qualifications. Experience in international development or a related field would be valued. Further experience, skills and attributes will include:

  • Technical understanding and application of revenue recognition, WIP and unearned revenue.
  • Detailed understanding and management of FX translations and balances.
  • An ability to take ownership and financial management of complex programs.
  • Excellent communication skills to liaise with both financial and non-financial audiences.
  • A resilient attitude that is adept to competing priorities and working within an environment of change.
  • Commercial acumen to identify operational efficiencies and process improvements.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Senior personnel management and business leadership experience.
  • Professional presentation and approach to work.
  • Interpersonal skills to allow for harmonious working relationships within the finance team and with project management teams.
