Job Description

A successful candidate will be paid a signing bonus of $2,000 within 30 days of start date and $2,000 bonus after completing 6 months of employment with the department.

Candidates with experience in financial management, including USAID awards, are encouraged to apply to join the team at ASU’s Office of Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (ORIEN) within the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering (FSE).

This position is responsible for providing financial oversight of federal grants and contracts, including multiple USAID and Department of State awards, and discretionary accounts while working closely with faculty who are making impactful advances in solving today’s global issues. Individuals who understand the principles of financial practices, possess excellent customer service skills, have experience managing international sponsored projects, and value continuous improvement are desired.

This is a mid-career track position (Level 4 of 6) reporting to the Associate Director Research Operations with opportunities to increase complexity based on job performance, as well as growth into multiple branches of specialization or supervisory tracks. This position allows for the opportunity to impact all the Schools of Engineering by participating in process improvement and assisting with special projects.

Essential Duties

Financial Account Management

  • Manages a complex portfolio of accounts; including financial planning, budget analysis, and financial projections for approved activities within the project work plan.
  • Responsible for all budgetary and compliance-related issues including, cost allowability, audit inquiries, VAT, customs issues, and cost overruns.
  • Approves financial and payroll transactions ensuring the expenses are allowable and compliant.
  • Prepares financial reports including monthly, quarterly projections, accrual, and other administrative reports.
  • Responsible for the financial expenditure tracking and reconciliation including expenses from in-country bank account.


Leadership

  • Coordinates the establishment and implementation of a financial procurement plan that follows all applicable ASU, Department of State, and USAID rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Remains current regarding ASU and sponsor policies, practices, methods, standards, regulations, and requirements affecting sponsored project accounting to ensure ongoing compliance; communicates information to appropriate parties to ensure understanding and awareness.
  • Works under deadlines, manages multiple responsibilities and duties, while navigating interruptions and unclear and/or changing situations.


Personnel Management

  • Personnel management and development of assigned employees; mentor team members across FSE.
  • Fosters a positive team climate by working collaboratively.
  • Assists leadership in setting clear team goals.


Communication

  • Responds to requests timely using effective interpersonal communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills and methods.
  • Interfaces with faculty and across schools for efficient and effective coordination and communication.

Minimum Qualification:

Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND five (5) years of related experience,OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in preparing and producing complex/detailed documents, financial reports, spending projections, and related materials for a high volume of awards.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of state and federal policies, procedures and requirements, related to sponsored projects administration, particularly the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
  • Experience in problem solving and taking initiative, managing a complex workload effectively and setting priorities while being flexible.
  • Experience working independently as well as a member of a team.
  • Experience in post award sponsored projects management functions and practices within a university environment.
  • Experience in interpreting data and analyzing results using statistical techniques.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills and a high level of customer service.
