Your team
You will be part of the Risk Analysis Division in the Directorate Risk Management. The Division is responsible for monitoring, measuring and assessing financial risks that may arise from the Eurosystem’s monetary policy operations and the ECB’s investment operations. We are looking for a financial risk expert to help build the next generation of our risk management data and IT infrastructure.
Your role
As a Financial Risk Expert you will:
- maintain the existing risk models, including credit risk, market risk and interest rate risk in the banking book programmed in Matlab;
- contributing to the preparation of the regular reports from enhancing current scripts to reflect new needs or desired features, to data gathering from Bloomberg and other data sources including the use of SQL, to drafting report and presenting results in line with the ECB English style guide and corporate templates;
- contributing to ad-hoc risk impact analysis which might cover among others changes to the monetary policy stance, changes of market expectations, changes to asset allocation;
- updating model documentation including both technical methodological documents, procedures to prepare reports and high-level presentation on the methodologies used;
- collaborating across business areas and across the Eurosystem to enhance both the financial risk modelling and reporting.

Qualifications, experience and skills
Essential:
- a master’s degree or equivalent in finance, economics, computer science, mathematics or another relevant field (see How you can join us for details on degree equivalences);
experience working in either financial risk management, market operations, statistics, financial stability;
- a sound understanding of financial instruments, e.g. corporate bonds, sovereign bonds, covered bonds and asset-backed securities;
- excellent IT programming skills (preferably MATLAB or Python) and a good understanding of languages used for managing data in a relational database management system (e.g. SQL);
- an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Desired:
- experience in risk model development and analysing financial risks;
- experience in synthetising complex analysis into clear and simple presentations;
- experience as part of a team, in enhancing existing risk models and processes linked to such models;
- experience in finance and/or risk management as a holder of a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and/or Financial Risk Manager (FRM) certificate(s), or experience working with financial risk managers and portfolio managers;
- experience using market data services, such as Bloomberg or Reuters.
