Job Description

KEY INFORMATION
Cowater is seeking senior food security/rural livelihood experts for two types of short-term assignments in the context of its Syria Independent Monitoring, Evidence and Learning (SIMEA) contract with FCDO. Qualifications required:
All experts:

  • Demonstrated experience in the food security/rural livelihood sector in Syria
  • Min 10 years work experience in the domain

Type 1: Monitoring experts:

  • Thematic:
    • evidence of understanding of farming/livestock breeding technical aspects if no practitioner;
    • experience of challenges faced in the modernisation of small-scale rural livelihoods.
  • Technical: experience in project monitoring, if not, project evaluation
  • Languages: full writing and speaking fluency in English. Speaking and reading fluency in Arabic strongly preferred

Type 2: Experts for sector-related policy and/or political economy analysis:

  • Thematic: understanding of food system value chain aspects, including inputs, outputs, markets, constraints, and participants with specific reference to Syria
  • Technical: experience in sector-related thematic and/or political economy analysis or similar in the context of professional or academic writings
  • Languages: full writing and speaking fluency in English. Speaking and reading fluency in Arabic preferred

Aptitude: willingness to take responsibility for operational as well as thematic/technical aspects of assignments
Location requirements: none, but willingness to adapt schedule to participate in remote meetings within 9 AM-5 PM GMT timeslots
Employment conditions: Consultant contract
