Job Description

Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in Rwanda?

We offer:

A traineeship of 6 months within the Cooperation Section of the EU Delegation to Rwanda, starting in October 2025.

The Operational Section manages the EU’s cooperation programmes across key priority areas including health, education, technical and vocational training (TVET), culture, digitalisation, infrastructure, and energy. These are some of the key priority areas under the EU’s Global Gateway strategy. The work ranges from strengthening Africa’s vaccine manufacturing capacities and expanding access to pre-primary education, to supporting the arts sector, advancing digital transformation, and accelerating green infrastructure and renewable energy projects. This traineeship offers an exceptional opportunity for junior professionals to contribute to and gain practical experience in shaping EU–Africa cooperation.

Main tasks:

  • Drafting briefing notes and background documents on cooperation matters;
  • Preparing analytical, policy and political reports;
  • Supporting stakeholder relations and coordinating inputs from EU Member States;
  • Participating in meetings, including note-taking and reporting duties;
  • Supporting visits from EU Headquarters and high-level delegations;
  • Assisting in the organisation of events and drafting content for social media and visibility activities;
  • Contributing to all stages of the project cycle (programming, implementation, monitoring and evaluation);
  • Providing general support to the work of the EU Delegation.

We look for:

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • University degree in international relations, African studies, EU studies, political science, public policy, economics, media/journalism or similar disciplines
  • Fluency in English (written and oral expression) as working language
  • Interest in political and economic developments in the region, the EU and international affairs
  • Prior practical experience on development cooperation or working for embassies, international organizations, NGOs would be an asset.
  • Strong analytical, drafting, communication and IT skills, as well as the ability to work independently and in a multicultural team.

Important information to read before applying

Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship).

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travels, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidates are not able to present the required documents, their application will be rejected.

The traineeships can only be offered in compliance with the local legislation as well as the legislation of the country of origin.

Citizens from EU Member states:

  • must provide proof that they will be covered against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation;
  • must hold a relevant entrance visa and / or temporary residence permit where applicable, based on the traineeship agreement, the duration of the traineeship, and in compliance with the local legislation.
