Job Description

SCOPE AND PURPOSE:

NCBA CLUSA is looking for an undergraduate student, graduate student or recent graduate to work with the USAID Reforestation Project team on fundraising and social media outreach in support of Haitian cooperatives and enterprises. This is an exciting opportunity for someone interested in building a non-profit and/or international development resume to work with passionate professionals and enjoy a real opportunity to make a difference strengthening Haitian cooperatives and businesses.

This is a part-time, benefits eligible position allowing flexibility with your academic schedules.

About the Project:

The USAID Reforestation Project aims to increase forest and perennial tree cover in Northern Haiti, with a view to restore and improve the provision of environmental services and support food security and resilience.

The four objectives of the project are:

  1. To reduce the threat of deforestation.
  2. To improve resilience to economic and natural shocks.
  3. To increase tree cover in targeted areas.
  4. To improve environmental governance and coordination.

As part of the project’s efforts to promote agroforestry and reforestation efforts, NCBA CLUSA works with local cooperatives and enterprises in key high-value value chains such as coffee, cacao, mango and honey to increase and diversify production and incomes.

About the Position:

The project is interested in launching a series of crowd-funding campaigns to garner support from NCBA CLUSA’s cooperative networks and Haiti diaspora for local cooperatives and enterprises. The campaigns will focus on select value chains to provide much-needed equipment for producers and processors to access more competitive markets. This financial support will complement the assistance the businesses are receiving from the project.

ESSENTIAL AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Establishes and manages a crowd-funding campaign under the supervision of project staff.
  • Identifies avenues for micro-donations and develops the outreach strategy.
  • Communicates with potential donors in Haiti diaspora and cooperative networks.
  • Develops communications materials for social media.

OTHER REGULAR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works closely with the Program Team to document and share successes and lessons learned.
  • Contributes to the overall development and maintenance of NCBA CLUSA reputation in the cooperative community.
  • Develops relationships with funding sources and proactively promotes this NCBA CLUSA program to these partners.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES:

  • Current college student (junior/senior level), graduate student, or recent graduate
  • Self-starter who takes initiative, can solve problems self-sufficiently, but takes direction well
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills – an interest in storytelling
  • Strong social media skills; ability to plan and conduct social media campaigns and updates
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, graphic design skills a plus
  • Experience in fundraising including online campaigns and donor outreach
  • High level of independence, creativity and responsibility
  • Interested in the non-profit sector
  • Fluency in English, proficiency in Haitian Creole and/or French a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to company mission, vision, principles, and values.
