The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is one of the largest humanitarian agencies in the world, providing relief, rehabilitation and post-conflict development support to victims of violent conflict.
IRC has been present in Jordan since 2007. IRC-Jordan is currently implementing a two year project on violence against women and girls through partnerships with two national organizations: Jordan River Foundation’s (JRF) a non-governmental organization and the Family Protection Department, through funding from the UN Trust Fund. The project aims at building the capacity of JRF and partially that of FPD to provide high quality services for survivors of violence, further create awareness and mobilize communities to change attitudes and behaviors that are harmful to women and girls.
IRC seeks to hire a GBV Capacity Building Advisor to support the project’s aims. The advisor will work with IRC project manager and Jordan River Foundation over a period of 8-10 weeks on the following: revise the procedures and protocols in place, train the staff at JRF’s GBV unit on various identified needs and assist in finalization of a training package developed on GBV. Additionally, the advisor will support the work of a newly formed coordination working group under the project.
Key Responsibilities include:
Develop training materials and conduct training workshops for JRF staff on the following: methods of conducting group activities with women survivors of violence, responding to needs of young survivors versus adult survivors, case managers’ self awareness and self care addressing prevention of secondary trauma. Hold weekly case review sessions with JRF staff to review and discuss management and counseling of challenging cases Work in collaboration of JRF to develop a format for case review meetings and other necessary support mechanisms for case managers to continue in the future. Review the JRF procedures manual and protocols for its GBV Unit and provide feedback to JRF. Conduct a technical review of the training package produced by the GBV unit to date and incorporate the new training material developed. Work closely with the IRC staff to support a local coordination working group among governmental and non-governental actors including developing coordination procedures and referral mechanisms. Review and make suggestions on how to unify the various intake and referral forms used by members of the coordination group. Conduct training for members of the coordination group on using a case management approach when respond to GBV survivors.

10. Post-trip debriefing held with the IRC project team and the GBV technical advisor.
Requirements:
3-5 years experience in GBV programming. Experience working to build the capacity of local actors to respond to GBV Master’s/PHD degree in Gender/ Women Studies, social work, public health, or other appropriate fields a plus (or a BA in related field with a long experience in a similar field) Excellent English writing skills required and knowledge of Arabic is desirable Demonstrated ability to work in an organized and timely manner. Experience working with local stakeholders such as local authorities,
GBV service providers and NGOs is desirable.
Experience in an urban emergency setting with dispersed refugee populations is a plus.
Work Environment
This position will be based in Amman, Jordan with frequent field visits to JRF’s Queen Rania Family and Child Centre/ Eastern Amman. The GBV advisor will live in a well furnished shared housing in Amman, Jordan.
