Job Description
Banyan Global is recruiting for a Gender Equality Consultant with strong finance experience in the Middle East. Fluent Arabic is mandatory. The successful consultant will be available over a two-year period (intermittently) to work with a group of microfinance institutions (MFIs) to define and guide a new Gender Strategy and facilitate the internal engagement, cultural change, and practical approaches to create sustainable change.
Responsibilities
The Gender Equality Consultant will be responsible for helping to define and advise on the Gender Strategy, including:
- Performing a gender audit and reviewing policies and practices in several Middle East MFIs, assessing the implementation of existing gender policies and strategies.
- Conducting a gender audit of women clients, products/services and reach to women customers.
- Chairing an Equality Steering committee, which includes HR managers and other interested employees or “gender ambassadors” to serve as trainers and change leaders.
- Developing general content of training materials related to these topics.
- Reporting to senior management on progress.
- Developing a communications plan for the Gender Strategy.
Qualifications
- The Consultant must possess a minimum of 7 years’ experience in gender equality strategy design and programming, with particular expertise in organizational change management, human resources policy development, and familiarity with the microfinance/banking/financial services industry.
- S/he will be an experienced trainer and facilitator.
- The consultant will be experienced in curriculum design and will have demonstrated experience in market research in qualitative focus group methodologies.
- S/he will have familiarity with the Middle East/Arab culture and should be fluent in Arabic and English.
