SNV is currently updating and expanding its roster of renewable energy expert CVs for use on upcoming energy projects. We are looking for experienced, proven, successful renewable energy experts for a wide range of potential tasks from providing regulatory advice to governments and utilities to understanding and building picoPV and other energy markets for rural customers. Potential future opportunities may be located in any country, have short or long durations, and may require mobilization or travel on short notice.

Qualifications
DESCRIPTION: Renewable Energy Expert
The following bullets are a representative sample of the kinds of future work we anticipate. This list is subject to change based on actual future requirements, if any. We do not anticipate that any one individual will be able to perform all of these representative tasks.
- Providing expert advice on mainstreaming renewable and sustainable energy guidance into country government policies, plans, and budgets.
- Providing technical assistance to base-of-the-pyramid (BoP) market development projects, with a focus on business development advisory services for last-mile distribution enterprises, consumer and enterprise financing, and rural and social marketing.
- Providing institutional and capacity support to the energy policy and project implementers, including public institutions, implementing country national and local governments, community based organizations, grass root institutions, and the private sector.
- Providing guidance and implementation assistance for Off-Grid Renewable Energy market development with an emphasis on consumer awareness, private sector development, and creating an enabling environment for small-scale renewable energy markets.
- Assessing and coordinating financial requirements across the off-grid renewable energy supply chain (including consumers), and engage with local financial institutions to develop financial products (for both businesses and retail customers)
- Technical assistance in the preparation of energy investment projects: developing technical, environmental and economic capacities to design energy studies, programs and projects, including knowledge to mobilize financing options.
- Developing the technical and operational capacity of government energy policy staff, particularly with regard to planning and development of rural energy projects as well as attracting, managing, and leveraging donor and private sector resources.
- Building, strengthening, and managing relationships with governments, key partners, institutions and stakeholders.
- Preparing renewable energy training materials for public institutions, implementing country national and local governments, community based organizations, grass root institutions, and the private sector.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- At least a post-graduate university degree in a relevant field (development economics, sustainable energy systems, renewable energy, sustainable energy engineering, climate change, energy policy, climate finance, or similar). Masters and PhD holders (or international equivalents) are strongly encouraged to apply.
- At least 10 years of relevant professional experience in expert advisory roles related renewable energy for international development (see list of relevant fields above).
- Willingness to travel internationally and work in rural environments.
- Proven ability to cultivate consensus, multitask, and be flexible and responsive to quickly changing demands.
- Proven experience advising international development projects, utility companies, and/or local governments in developing countries.
- Fluency in professional English is required. Fluency in French, Portuguese, Spanish, or a local dialect in a developing country is considered an asset;
